Understanding Germs

Understanding Germs

Urgh - This week the Junior Sea Cadets have been suitably gossed out learning about germs and good handwashing technique.  Several different experiments were completed which included some with paint, pepper and a UV light to show up the germs!  All of this is part of the Red Module of teh Junior Sea Cadet Trainig Programme.

Juniors also had a go at growing bacteria on bread  - they've just got to wait a bit to see the results!

Playing Battleships

Playing Battleships

Often our Sea Cadet Activities teach a range of skills and knowledge.  Last week Junior Sea Cadets from both groups designed and made model ships, boats, or submarines from clay. A great way to learn about the design and function of vessels.

This week the Juniors used their models to play battleships, using the strategy, memory and logic skills.

RM Cadets Showing Juniors How Its Done

RM Cadets Showing Juniors How Its Done

This week our Royal Marine Cadets spent some time showing the Junior Sea Cadets some of the valuable skills they have learned in the Royal Marine Cadet (RMC) Training Programme.

Unlike Sea Cadets, those interested in joining the Royal Marine Cadets have to wait until they are 13 years old.  Those who are younger can begin their cadet journey with Sea Cadets and transfer later.  This week RM Cadets explained navigation and Military Map Reading (MMR).  Sessions like this give our Junior Sea Cadets more of an insight into what its like to be a Royal Marine Cadet and we plan to do more in the future.

District Football Competition

District Football Competition

We might not be back parading at the unit since the Christmas break but cadets have already been representing TS Kingfisher at the District Football Competition held in Coventry.

Although we didn’t have enough cadets to make up a complete Redditch and Bromsgrove team for all of the competition categories, our cadets joined forces with cadets from other units and all managed to play. There were some great games and super results.

Senior Boys – Silver Medal
Junior Boys -  Bronze Medal
(Penalty Shoot out – fabulous play and super goalkeeping)

Senior Girls – Mixed Team fourth place

Junior Boys – Mixed Team Bronze Medal

The points accumulated by the Redditch & Bromsgrove representatives were significant with the unit achieving third place overall in the competition.  Well done to all who played!

Christmas Mess Dinner 2023

Christmas Mess Dinner 2023

The Ship’s Company enjoyed a fabulous Christmas Mess Dinner this week.  The cadets dressed up in their smartest clothes and dined on traditional Christmas fayre. Royal Navy mess traditions were followed throughout the dinner and the experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all.   What a wonderful way to celebrate Christmas and all that the unit has achieved throughout the year!

Many thank to all of the adult volunteers who helped make this such a memorable evening.
