Area Drill Competition

We are proud to announce on the 20th March 2022, the Portsmouth Guard came first in the Area Drill competition. BZ to LC Tiya who won best guard commander! They will now go on to the National competition representing the Southern Area. Congratulations goes to all the other teams who competed.

Rifle drill is used in the Sea Cadets to teach teamwork, commitment and self discipline. The rifles used are used for parade purposes only.

D Day

On 6th June 1944 an operation took place that not only changed the course of the Second World War it changed the shape of Europe and the world. Today our cadets assisted Boat House Number 4 and the Historic Dockyard commemorate the 77th anniversary of D Day. Each and every cadet who attended today should be very proud of yourselves you proved yourselves to be perfect ambassadors for the Unit and the Corps.

Congratulations to AC Ewan who leaves TS Alamein to join the Royal Navy next week. He will always remain part of the Sea Cadet family at Portsmouth Unit and we wish him well in his new career.

Juno beach in Normandy cadet Ruben attended the D-Day 75 anniversary and was given the opportunity by the Australian ambassador to given a short speech he had written on the impact of D-Day on today’s youth along other young people from the allied nations. Cadet Ruben gave his speech in front of the D Day Veterans, PM Édouard Philippe of France, PM Justin Trudeau of Canada, US head of House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi and the Ambassadors of the Allied nations. Cadet Ruben also received a message on the way home from the DA to say the Australian Ambassador extended his congratulations and the German & Belgique Ambassadors thought his was the most poignant of speeches.

Our juniors are having fun at Cowes unit for the yearly district wet weekend. They are building rafts, and learning the basic rowing techniques. They have also taken part in the RN tradition of the crossing the line ceremony.
