Coastal enthusiasts Portrush Sea Cadets gathered on Portrush, Whiterocks beach to celebrate the launch of TIDY Northern Ireland’s Clean Coast Programme, spelling out the need for environmental change to protect Northern Ireland’s fragile coastline.

Northern Ireland’s coastline is enjoyed by over 2 million visitors per year but in order to keep it that way communities must take responsibility for their beaches, keep them clean and uphold their natural beauty. SERVICE OF DEDICATION OF THE ROYAL NAVY ENSIGN...

SERVICE OF DEDICATION OF THE ROYAL NAVY ENSIGN...

Letter of invitation from the Commanding Officer:

Dear ex-CAROLINE’s and Friends,

SERVICE OF DEDICATION OF THE ROYAL NAVY ENSIGN OF HMS CAROLINE ST ANNE’S CATHEDRAL, BELFAST – THURSDAY 31st. MARCH 2011

After 96 years of faithful service to the Royal Navy, HMS CAROLINE the World War One light cruiser will finally decommission on Thursday 31 March 2011.

A short service of decommissioning will be held onboard the ship in the early afternoon, which will be attended by serving personnel only. I regret that this is due to the dormant state of the ship systems and the lack of facilities available to support a larger public event.

On completion of the decommissioning ceremony the intention is that the Ships Ensign will be moved to St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast where it will be laid up as a permanent tribute to the link between the Ship and the City of Belfast, which has been her home for the past 87 years and to the many thousands of men and women who served in her during her illustrious and lengthy career.

To mark this most special of occasions I would like to invite you to attend the Service of Dedication at St Anne’s which will commence at 3.00pm. I do hope that you will be able to join us to say goodbye to an old and dear friend.

I look forward to seeing you on the day.
