National Trafalgar Parade

National Trafalgar Parade

Milford Haven Sea Cadets have taken part in a spectacular show of formal parading and 80 strong marching band from The Mall to Trafalgar Square, to celebrate Trafalgar Day on behalf of the Royal Navy - 500 young people are taking part including cadets from the Army and Air cadets.

Milford Haven Sea cadets marched onto Trafalgar Square, London from Horse Guards Parade on the Sunday 21 October at 11.10am.

National Trafalgar Day is a chance for them to showcase their skills and talent to dignitaries from the Royal Navy and to London’s spectators and tourists. The Sea Cadets have been performing the ritual since the 1930’s. Trafalgar Day commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar Victory and Nelson’s death in 1805.

Sub Lieutenant (SCC) William Elliott RNR, Commanding Officer said; “Our cadets only had two days to practice and coordinate their moves with the other UK cadets for the very exacting and precise ceremonial display they perform in front of up to 2000 spectators. So it’s a big reflection of the hard work, dedication and passion these young people have invested throughout the year that they can deliver such a show stopping parade. We are really proud of them.”

Sea Cadets are the UK’s largest nautical youth charity established in 1856. We work across the country in 400 towns with 14000 cadets aged between 10 and 18.  Through nautical adventure we inspire young people to learn and develop new skills that boost confidence to give them a head start in life.

The Saturday comprised of the National First Aid Competition which representation from 6 Areas of the Sea Cadets.  The day ended with Milford Haven (representing South West) being crowned as the Winner’s!

As a result, they were then entered into the Inter-services First Aid Competition on the Sunday against St John Ambulance Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets to name but a few.  This was a tough competition which resulted in a great experience!
