On Saturday 15th June 2013, Middlesbrough, Guisborough and East Cleveland, Hartlepool and Stockton Sea Cadets opened their doors to the public to commemorate the 12 month anniversary of the Olympic Torch coming to our region. An original Torch made its way around the Sea Cadet units across Teesside, a year to the day it arrived in the North East.
At Middlesbrough, we opened our Unit to enable the public to pop in and see what we do. Not only did Middlesbrough aquire some new cadets but we also caught the attention of Tyne Tees ITV News and our very own P.O Rielly was interviewed. One of our Junior Cadets even got to hold the microphone throughout the interview! (pictured)
“This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone from our region who got behind the Torch Relay, the Olympic and Paralympic Games this time last year. We were able to hold, have our photograph taken with the Olympic Torch and revel in the spirit of London 2012. The Sea Cadets have been part of the fabric of Teesside for many years, which is why we were thrilled to be able to offer this to everyone who wanted to create their own piece of London 2012 history”
