MIDDLESBROUGH SEA CADETS LAUNCH NEWSLETTER

It is with great excitement that Middlesbrough Sea Cadets announce the launch of our monthly newsletter, at the moment it is called In To The Wind - our first edition went to press 10th June 2013. This will be one of the ways we keep you updated, publish up and coming events, items of Sea Cadet news and any achievements within our Unit. Cadets, parents and supporters of the Unit can also get involved in the newsletter, not only will there be competitions you can enter from time to time but if you think there is a story we should cover that everyone at Middlesbrough Sea Cadets should know about, then feel free to contact us at ao.mbroscc@outlook.com

Not just that, you have until 10th August 2013 to name the newsletter. We are looking for something which captures the spirit and adventure of Middlesbrough Sea Cadets. This is a competition and there will be a prize, so get your thinking caps on!

MIDDLESBROUGH SEA CADETS SELECTED TO TAKE PART...

On the 9th June 2013, Northern Area Sea Cadets are holding a Rowing Regatta and two Middlesbrough cadets, Cadet J Murphy and Able cadet Pears have been selected to take part and will be travelling all the way up to Port Edgar on the East Coast of Scotland, 8 miles northwest of Edinburgh. With the backdrop of the Forth Bridge and cool sea air, teams from across the Northern Area will competing in a good humoured rowing regatta. Our Cadets will make up part of the Teesside District Rowing Team.

Lets wish them luck and cheer them on!

MIDDLESBROUGH SEA CADETS HOST THE BATTLE OF...

Sea Cadets from across Teesside have been marking the 207th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. On 28th October 2012, we marched through Middlesbrough to commemorate one of Britain's most important battles.This is the first time the anniversary has been marked on Teesside in more than two years, but it has now been brought back into the calendar as an important day in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.The cadets have been remembering Lord Nelson and the 458 who lost their lives at sea while defeating the French.

"A lot of people will have been to London and seen Trafalgar Square and seen the column of Nelson and not really seen any significance to it. We hope by celebrating things like today people will realise the significance of that."

THE DUKE OF YORK AND SEA CADETS CAPTAIN OPENS...

Middlesbrough Sea Cadets T.S. Erimus was officially opened after refurbishment by Captain Mark Windsor BSc MA Royal Navy at a ceremony in our premses at East Lodge in Albert Park, Middlesbrough. HRH The Duke of York, The Admiral of the Sea Cadets (pictured) sent a warm message of congratulations to our guests at the opening of Middlesbrough Sea Cadets’ new headquarters.

“I would like to congratulate (all at) TS Erimus on the opening of your new home on this, your 70th anniversary. I know many people have worked very hard to achieve this and I wish you all every success in the future.”

The message was delivered by Lord Crathorne, Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, who is in his 25th year in association with our Unit. He cut a special cake to mark the occasion with his sword.

Several cadets and Adults have spent up to 2 weeks offshore this summer on the Sea Cadet Yachts, Power vessel - TS Jack Petchey and the Sailing Brig - TS Royalist visiting many locations around the British Isles. Bursaries are available for cadets !

The Ship's company celebrated their 1st Pickle Night with food, games, music and dancing! A cake made in the shape of HMS Pickle took pride of place and was delicious!!

We visited HMS Protector as she was on the river Tees for Maintenance. We have great links with the ship and visit whenever possible.

Cadets took part in the Great Unit Bake-off, creating delicious treats!

Cadets have the opportunity to get on the water during April - September! We offer Rowing, Kayaking, paddleboarding and Canoeing as well as other opportunities to go Sailing and learning to drive a powerboat!

Cadets (14+) have the opportunity to go offshore for a week on one of the SCC Yachts!

Cadets also have the opportunity to spend one or two weeks onboard either TS Jack Petchey or TS John Jerwood on offshore voyages around the coast of the UK!
