UMT Quiz Night

5th March was the night of the second Unit Management Team quiz, which took place at the unit HQ in Brompton Barracks. Last year's quiz was hugely successful so there was a lot to live up to. Around 86 people participated; made up of supporters, staff or friends of the unit. The quiz consisted of 12 rounds with categories including Geography, Science, Sport, Naval trivia & many more! The evening raised around £500 which was a great achievement! Thank you to the UMT & PSA for planing & running the event.

Drake's Drum Award

The Commanding Officer & Unit Training Officer were extremely delighted to collect the Drake's Drum award, on behalf of the unit, at the Southern Area Conference in November. The award is given to the unit that has achieved the highest number & greatest spread of Seamanship qualifications in the Area. The Cadets have been putting a lot of effort in to gain seamanship qualifications this year & this has been confirmed by this award. A good effort from all!

Best Dressed for Success 2013

Best Dressed for Success 2013

After the 2012 (Medway Towns) history making success of our Guard getting 2nd place at the national drill & piping competition... many of the same Cadets formed our entry in the Drill Squad competition & achieved 2nd place out of 380 units (400 units according to HQ) & best dressed drill squad, too. As Medway Towns didn't enter a drill squad in the District competition last year or the year before it's quite an achievement.

After a ridiculous journey from Kent to Torpoint which began with a delay, due to the driver having to take a rest break before the squad even left the unit, to the coach running out of fuel well before reaching the Plymouth area, the Cadets from East & West Kent didn't get to go to bed before half past midnight after leaving mid-morning.

A group of parents & some staff made the trip to support the Cadets & were very impressed with what they saw.

Our PO Cdt was justly proud to receive the trophy from the Area Recreation Officer when he visited the unit to present the Drill Squad with their Area Drill competition prizes.

Southern Area winners of Best Drill Squad, Best Drill Squad Commander, Best Routine & Best Dressed Drill Squad for 2013.

Well done team "T.S. CORNWALLIS S.C.C."!
