Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Gold Expedition

Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Gold Expedition

Four of Kettering's Sea and Marine Cadets went on an intrepid 4 day walking expedition to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Walking an average of 14k each day, the cadets wore their back packs containing everything they needed to complete the entire weekend, including clothes, food and camping equipment. The packed for every eventuality from rain, shine, cold and warmth.

Cooking their own meals and self directing themselves around the route, the cadets demonstrated resilience, their ability to problem solve, work together, communicate effectively and their continued support to drive and motivate each other.

The Gold Level Award takes a minimum of 78 weeks to complete. Cadets create their own program and choose from activities for each section of the Award, including Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skill Development and Adventurous Journey.

BZ for successfully completing the expedition.

Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets host a District Boat work Weekend for junior sea cadets aged 10-12 years

Juniors' Boatwork Weekend

Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets host a District Boatwork Weekend for junior sea cadets aged 10-12 years.

Junior cadets from across the district of Northamptonshire gained skills in sailing, power boating and rowing. They also completed a couple of waterborne units, including making boats out of recycled materials.

It was soooooo hot that everyone, cadets and intructors alike, went into Wicksteed Lake for a cool off. Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets spend most of their summer enjoying water based activities on the lake, gaining their confidence in water based activites and gaining proficiencies in sailing, power boating, paddlesports, windsurfing and rowing.

Congratulations to all junior cadets from units across the Northamptonshire District who gained a proficiency in their chosen water based activity over the weekend ☀️🎉

Shuttleworth Fly Navy Day

Shuttleworth Fly Navy Day

Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets invited to support Fly Navy in the Ambassadors’ Marquee at the air show.

The 'Fly Navy' air show returned to Old Warden in 2022 after a four year absence. The event hosted at Shuttleworth allowed a large number of visiting aircraft to take part.

Kettering Sea and Marine Cadets who are affiliated with 800 Naval Air Squadrum (NAS) recognise the Fleet Air Arm, the aviation branch of the Royal Navy.

This year's show was a year for helicopters! The display featured Historic Helicopter's Westland Sea King HC4 flying alongside their Westland Wessex; as well as a trio of Westland Wasps (four were planned but one went tech); and four Gazelles - which opened the show.

Various warbirds also made the journey including the Supermarine Seafire XVII, the Grumman Bearcat and Wildcat, the Goodyear Corsair, the BBMF Spitfire Mk IX and the Catalina flying boat.

Our juinior cadets liked the Seafire so much that they have named themselves the 'Seafire Division'.

Fly Navy is funded by public donations and they restore, maintain and fly a collection of historic aircraft that allow over 3 million people annually to see them at air shows across the UK.
