A parade marched through Huddersfield on 12th November 2017, to commemorate those lost in battles defending our nation. Serving military servicemen and women were joined by veterans, cadets, dignitaries and members of the emergency services at a Remembrance Sunday service in the town centre.

Hundreds of people gathered to pay tribute to Huddersfield’s fallen soldiers as the impressive parade made its way through the town.

Those taking part marched from Huddersfield Town Hall to the Parish Church where a service was held. The parade then returned to the town hall where the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Christine Iredale, spoke to the assembled masses.

The hard work and dedication of Huddersfield Sea Cadets was celebrated at a special awards evening at the town's Drill Hall on 23 October 2017. It was an opportunity to reflect on their achievements and what makes the Sea Cadets special.

The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees and her Consort, Councillor Gwen Lowe and Ken Lowe; the Unit President, Mr James Selka; Unit Chairperson, Lt Cdr (SCC) Judith Clarke RNR Rtd; Lt Cdr (SCC) Craig Dawson RNR; and Unit Commanding Officer CPO (SCC) Kiran Kundi. Parents and family members were also present to see the cadets get their well deserved awards.

Before the award presentation began, the cadets were inspected by the Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Gwen Lowe, after which a short break was taken. Refreshments were very kindly provided by Mr and Mrs Smith, the parents of one of the cadets receiving awards.

Smartly presented Sea Cadets from Huddersfield turned out in force at Asda in November where several members helped to raise valuable donations towards the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

The Sea Cadets are no strangers to collecting, having sold poppies and pins during last year's Poppy Appeal and in previous seasons. There was a good turn out of cadets, supported by the unit's Chairperson, Lt Cdr (SCC) Judith Clarke RNR Rtd, and Commanding Officer, CPO (SCC) Kiran Kundi, along with Adult Instructors, Cadet Instructors, and Committee Members.

The Poppy Appeal raises money to help members of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, veterans and their families.

Sea Cadets from Huddersfield were presented with trophies, shields and certificates during their annual Awards Presentation Evening. The cadets received awards for their hard work over 2016 at the ceremony held in the unit's headquarters in the Drill Hall on St Paul’s Street on Monday, 7th November 2016.

The event was also attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Kirklees, Councillor Jim Dodds and his wife Carol, who handed the cadets their awards. CPO (SCC) Kiran Kundi, the unit's Commanding Officer, also presented awards and badges to some of the cadets.

CPO Kundi said, “The annual presentation evening is a time to reward the cadets for their hard work and many achievements throughout the year. The whole ship’s company should be proud of everything they have done this year, as I am immensely proud to be their Commanding Officer.”
