Ships Visit to HMS Exploit

Ships Visit to HMS Exploit

On the 2nd December 2017, 13 cadets and 2 staff had the opportunity to go to sea onboard HMS Exploit.

It was an early start for the cadets but was well worth it. We met the crew in Portsmouth who welcomed us and gave us a tour of the Patrol vessel, before setting sail. The cadets were able to experience what life is like on the ship sailing out of Portsmouth Dockyard out into the Solent. The cadets took part in the ships routine, paying respects to passing vessels and learning that the bosuns call is not just used in the unit but part of everyday life for the Royal Navy.

The cadets were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, up close from the sea. It's sheer size and magnitude impressed the cadets. We were then out in the Solent where the cadets were given a demonstration of how agile HMS Exploit is with some sharp turns and an emergency stop. Cadets were then given the opportunity to take the helm and navigate the ship through some maneuvers.

The crew then demonstrated the man over board drills, thankfully with a dummy as the weather was freezing! The day was rounded off with a visit to the Royal Armories Museum at Fort Nelson. It was an excellent day out and we would like to thank the ships crew for accommodating us and giving the cadets a taste of Naval life.
