Summer Camp and Summer Rock- August 2012

Summer Camp and Summer Rock- August 2012

Three cadets and one member of staff attended the London Area Summer Camp at Crowborough. The week was packed with activities such as kayaking, adventure training, drill, seamanship, first aid and leadership.

The three cadets came home for a couple of days before travelling to Cornwall with five other cadets from the Unit for a week of more extreme adventure with the London Area Adventure Training Team at Summer Rock. Activities included sea canoeing, coasteering, rock climbing, adventure training and surfing.

Cadet Gabrielle Bueser said that Summer Camp was fun and that she enjoyed making new friends with cadets from other Units. Gabrielle was even more enthused by Summer Rock: "Summer Rock is wicked. I super enjoyed the activities, especially the surfing and coasteering. The location of the camp [RAF St Mawgan] was amazing!". Able Cadet Teddy Janes throughly enjoyed Summer Rock and commented that he particularly loved the rock climbing and the food.

International Cargo Insurance Conference- 9th...

International Cargo Insurance Conference- 9th...

A small group of Cadets represented the Unit at the International Cargo Insurance Conference held at the picturesque Heythrop Park Conference Centre near Chipping Norton. The organisers had very kindly invited the Cadets to attend the gala dinner. The Cadets piped the other guests to dinner. Able Cadet Bartley delivered a short speech to the Conference about the Unit’s recent trip to the Norfolk Broads. This speech is unlikely to be forgotten by the audience. Though however entertaining AB Bartley might have been, he was not quite capable of eclipsing the official guest speaker, Brian Blessed.

The Unit thanks the guests for their individual generosity and the Conference Organisers for their generous donation to the Unit. Special thanks must go to the Conference Chairman, Aiden Holly of Lloyds.

Flag Day- 30th May 2014

Flag Day- 30th May 2014

This is the day when as much of the Unit as can be mustered, collects money for the Unit. Starting early with train and underground stations, together with the north end of London Bridge the Cadets, uniformed staff and adult helpers collected donations from commuters. After, a rest and feed, the Unit spread itself around the City for the lunchtime crowds. It is not policy to publicise amounts- nevertheless the day was very, very successful.

Thanks go out to the Corporation of London, London Underground Ltd and Network Rail for the various permissions. Special thanks are due to the Mission for Seafarers for the use of their premises as base for the day and also the shift managers at Cannon Street Station for their friendly efficiency.
