2017 - Birthday trip to historic dockyards

2017 - Birthday trip to historic dockyards

In celebration of 20 years we arranged a unit trip down to Portsmouth to visit the historic dockyards. We had the opportunity to visit Nelsons flagship, HMS Victory, as well as visiting HMS Warrior and spending time in what is known as "action stations".

Due to their units involvement in Chiswick units creation, we also welcomed cadets and staff from Wandsworth unit to join us in our celebrations.

2016 - AGM and Awards evening

The Annual General Meeting was held earlier than normal this year.

This is an evening for parents and supporters to attend and hear about what the unit has achieved over the year. We also have our Unit Management Committee members re-stand for their positions and for any additional people to put themselves forward.

After we had finished it was time for the annual presentations. The Mayor presented the awards to the Cadets for their achievements.

Well done to all of our cadets who got awards at our award ceremony last night. They were as follows:

2016 - Summer holiday trip on the John Jerwood

2016 - Summer holiday trip on the John Jerwood

After a year spent fundraising Chiswick unit took 11 cadets (plus a lovely lad from Colchester unit) all the way to Belgium to go on a weeks trip on the T.S. John Jerwood.

For many cadets this was their first time actually out at sea but many of them greatly enjoyed the challenges. They had to learn many aspects of life at sea included seamanship, engineering, how to live in close quarters with each other and had daily tasks like galley duty, washing up and making sure they had made their bed!

The trip was not without its ups and downs, mainly the crossing back from France which had many of the crew feeling a bit green, but we soon arrived back to the UK in Ramsgate.

The cadets were a pleasure to be with for the duration of the trip and everyone came home with their offshore seaman level 1. Even more impressive was that two came home with their level 2!

Hopefully this trip has sparked the love for being at sea and we already know a few cadets are planning another trip already.

Well done all

2016 - NJIRC

Once again Chiswick Unit attended the National Indoor Rowing championship sending 3 Cadets and a member of staff to compete in the world’s largest indoor rowing competition for Juniors. They were up against 2,500+ young people between ages of 11 & 18. Many of the competitors come from youth rowing clubs making winning the competition very tough.

However.... this year Cadet Cassini manage to finish 3rd in his age group. An amazing achievement!
