Remembrance Sunday Parades

Remembrance Sunday Parades

13th November 2011

Cadets and Staff from Bury Unit were involved in both the Bury & Ramsbottom Remembrance parades.  In Ramsbottom Bury Cadets formed a 'war memorial guard' and honour guard for dignitaries on parade in the town.  In Bury the Unit's Standard was paraded together with cadets forces, veteran associations, serving regiments and of course the Royal British Legion.  The remaining Ship's Company formed part of the parade.

At both locations the Cadets and staff were present for the service of remembrance and laid a wreath on behalf of the unit for all who gave their lives in the service of others.

Coastal Veterans Remembrance Parade

Coastal Veterans Remembrance Parade

13th November 2011

Cadets and staff were present at the Coastal Veterans (torpedo) memorial next to the town hall to show our marks of respect to all those who gave their lives in the service of others.  The cadets will now carry on the tradition of laying a poppy wreath at this memorial on Remembrance Sunday since the unfortunate disbanding of the association earlier this year.  This will ensure that they will be remembered long into the future.

Poppy Appeal

Cadets were on hand at the Tesco superstore, Bury to help sell poppies for the Royal British Legion.  The cadets efforts will be entered into the Lord Lt. of Greater Manchester's  poppy appeal competition, where the one who raises the most money for the appeal will be presented with an award.  The unit will also be entered into the competition with the combied effort of all the cadets coming together as unit total.

BZ to all involved.

Official Poppy Appeal Start

Official Poppy Appeal Start

25th October 2011

The Worshipful Mayor of Bury, Cllr Yvonne Creswell, Col(ret) Eric Davidson of the Royal British Legion and members of Bury Royal Naval Association attended the Unit on Tuesday night for the official start of the Poppy Appeal in the Borough of Bury.  The evening started with the Mayor and her Consort being piped onboard, then inspecting and talking to the Cadets on parade. This was followed by the main event of the night the official start to the Poppy Appeal and of course this was an ideal photo opportunity for the local press.

The Mayor and her Consort then went on a tour of the Unit and were informed of cadet activities, events and shown the Unit's Field Gun.  The evening was concluded by the Mayor and the Unit Chaplain dedicating the Unit's new Standard, which will be paraded in Bury Town Centre at this year’s Remembrance Sunday Parade (13th November 2011).

The Mayor, her Consort and the members of the RNA were then served refreshments in the Unit's Ward Room.
