Reflections of the Lord Mayor

Reflections of the Lord Mayor

At the beginning of May, cadets from City of London Unit provided a Carpet Guard at the annual Reflections of the Lord Mayor. The event celebrates the vital role of the Lord Mayor of the City of London, one of the oldest continuously elected civic offices in the world. This non-profit event supports charities nominated by each Lord Mayor during their time in office, with funds from the evening going to the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. This year, Sea Cadets were the chosen beneficiaries, receiving £3,125 from the appeal. Sea Cadets CEO, Martin Coles, gave a short speech at the event and expressed his gratitude for the donation and Lord Jeffrey Mountevans' continued support.

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Presentation

Gold Duke of Edinburgh Presentation

This month at Buckingham Palace, thirty-two current and former members of Sea Cadets were presented with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award Certificates by HRH The Earl of Wessex and Strictly Come Dancing Star Erin Boag. To achieve the prestigious gold award, the participants spent between 12-18 months volunteering, improving their physical prowess, developing a skill, completing a four-day expedition in wild country and embarking on a week long residential with other young people. We are delighted as a charity to have so many cadets recognised in one go and for them all to be celebrated at the same occasion is great.

CVQO Westminster Awards

CVQO Westminster Awards

On Tuesday 3 - Friday 6 April, the annual CVQO Westminster Awards selection event was held in the Quantock Hills of Somerset. The event pits the 40 nominees from across the Cadet Forces against eachother in a series of tasks. Sea Cadets were delighted to have nine participants.

These annual awards recognise selfless, determined individuals who have overcome adversity or a personal challenge or have gone the extra mile to help others. The finalists took part in a week of challenges and tasks in mixed weather conditions, but all set about them with enthusiasm and vigour. The sea cadets now wait to hear which of them have made it into the final lucky 10 who will go to South Africa in the summer.

2018 OFFSHORE SEASON GETS UNDER WAY

2018 OFFSHORE SEASON GETS UNDER WAY

Offshore season is well and truly under way, with the inaugural voyage of 2018 kicking off last month.

This year, our two new yachts - TS City of London and TS Sir Stelios - will be out on the water, alongside our flag ship, TS Royalist, and power vessels, TS Jack Petchey and TS John Jerwood.

An offshore trip is a fantastic opportunity for young people to travel, explore new places, meet new people and earn qualifications. They are heavily subsidised, and there are also bursaries available.
