Making History for the Mercia District at...

A very special evening was held on the evening of 24th May 2016 in recognition of the effort and progress made so far this year of all the Sea Cadets attending Birmingham Sherbourne.

Over 60 awards were presented by the Officer In Charge - Acting Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Mark Lane RNR and Unit Chaplain Christopher Thomas RNR to almost all of the 38 Cadets and Junior Cadets who attended.

The evening culminated in the presentation by Mr John Johnson-Allen, Chairman of the Institute of Seamanship to Able Cadet Hannah, with the National Award for Seamanship.  Able Cadet Hannah was chosen by the Sea Cadet Corps as the best Cadet in the whole of the United Kingdom for Excellence in Seamanship, this is a considerable achievement and one of which we are very proud.

AC Hannah was awarded with the Silver Salver which will take pride of place at Birmingham Sherbourne and Honorary Membership of the Institute of Seamanship both for 1 year, plus £35 of book tokens to spend as she chooses.

This is the first time in the 9 year history of the award that it has been presented to a Cadet from the Mercia District.

Well done AC Hannah, very proud indeed!

Senior girls from Birmingham Sherbourne, Birmingham Vernon and Walsall Units took the South West Area 5-A-Side Football competition by storm on Saturday 23rd January. There were some hard games played and more than a few injuries as a result of the hard concrete pitches for both girls and boys but they came through to win respectfully.

Highest scorers of the competition for Senior Girls Olivia Dargie from Birmingham Vernon scoring 19 goals altogether and Keegan Burley from Sherbourne taking the title for the Junior Boys.

Next stop the National competition at the end of February.

WISH THEM LUCK!
