On Thursday the 3rd of May, 4 Naval Vessels from accross Europe entered Aberdeen Harbour. These vessels were part of the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1).

The Commanding Officer Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Peter Ritchie RNR along with Midshipman (SCC) Iona MacLellan RNR were invited on board the flagship of the group HNLMS MERCUUR by Commander Peter Ramboer along with other city representatives for a insight and demonstration on the groups role across the globe. 

This was then followed up on Saturday the 5th with the cadets being invited on board the BNS Narcis for a tour 

The other ships in the group are HNLMS URK and FGS Bad Bevensen l. 

Sea Cadets - Aberdeen is calling for young people to come on board this February to see how being a cadet can make a difference to their lives.

The unit, which meets at Pocra Quay, Aberdeen, is welcoming new cadets as part of Sea Cadets’ national campaign, #NeverOrdinary, which runs throughout the month and aims to raise awareness of what the charity can offer.

At Aberdeen, young people aged between 10 and 17 can enjoy the exciting activities we offer: sailing, rowing & powerboating , giving you self-belief and boosting your CV.

In a recent survey, 94% of parents said they felt their child’s self-confidence, motivation and team-work had “greatly improved” at Sea Cadets. Being a sea cadet can also help young people at school, as well as in later life, whatever they positive difference to their lives. It’s also a great way to make new friends.

Peter Ritchie, the unit's Commanding Officer), said: “Sea Cadets offers so many opportunities to young people, helpin them earn qualifications to boost their CV, but also have fun. As a charity, we rely on donations and volunteers to keep our doors open and to provide exciting activities to children and teenagers at a heavily subsidised cost.”

This wednesday two of our cadets said goodbye to TS SCYLLA as they relocate to Australia.

After a busy December, it give us great pleasure to announce that George Masson has been voted in to stand another year at the unit Chairmain. He and his team continues the role for another 12 months however they need your help.

On the 26th of November, one of our youngest adult volunteers headed to Whale Island, Portsmouth to attend the Officer Development Programme National Board.

It gives the Unit great pleasure to announce that Midshipman (SCC) Iona MacLellan RNR has successfully passed the Board at HMS EXCELLENT.

Mid (SCC) MacLellan RNR joined TS SCYLLA at the age of 10 as a Junior Sea Cadets and had progressed up the ranks to Petty Officer Cadet before turning Staff in 2016. During her time in the unit Mid (SCC) MacLellan RNR has attended and successfully passed her Drill Instructors course, RYA Powerboat Instructors course and the Royal Navy Leadership course at HMS Raleigh in Cornwall.
