Golden Presentation

Golden Presentation

The Somerset Freemasons has rewarded the unit for its continued support to local young people with a donation of £3000.

The donation was received after the unit made a presentation to Freemasons on the benefit of the charity's work and the transformation that offshore voyages give young people. The Freemasons panel was particularly impressed by the accredited qualifications cadets achieve while offshore as well as gaining vital life skills such as teamwork, commitment, courage and leadership.

The donation will have a big impact on the cadets who might not usually be able to go on these courses due to the cost. We are extremely grateful for the donation and will be sure to put it to good use. Cadets at the unit can now look forward to booking on to one of the vessels in the offshore fleet.

National Drill Competition 2017

We enjoyed a major success by winning at the National Drill and Piping Competition with our Armed Guard. The cadets took part in the competition at HMS Raleigh on 29th April 2017. The nine cadets were up against 6 other Squads from the different areas. The cadets had a month between the area and national competition to perfect their routine and make sure their uniforms were a high standard. Commanding Officer S/Lt B Fear said, "The cadets put a lot of hard work in and they got a great result for all their effort".
