Rememberance Weekend 2016

 

Over the weekend of the 12-13th of November 2016 Waltham Forest Unit has been taking part in many different events. On Saturday the 12th of November our Officer in Charge LT (SCC) J. Cormack RMR and two of our junior cadets took part in the annual Lord Mayors Show in the City of London. On Sunday the 13th of November the unit attended the Civic Service of remberance  at the Waltham Forest Town Hall. The unit provided the honour guard and also fired the units field gun to mark the two minutes silence at 11 am.  

Offshore sailing September- October 2016

 

Two of our female cadets one a Sea cadet & one a Royal marine cadet have been on  an offshore sailing course on T.S City

Liveryman one of the National sea cadets training yachts. The two female  cadets have sailed from Weymouth to Gosport and also taken

part in the national small boats race with the sea cadets around the Isle of Wight.

 

Chingford Armed Forces Day 2016

 

On Saturday the 25th of June 2016 a squad of cadets from Waltham Forest Unit took part in the Annual Armed forces day Parade

in Chingford. The unit was a part of around 300 personal from the Army, Royal British legion and other cadet and youth organizations.

Armed Forces day was set up in 2010 to  be a national event to celebrate what your armed forces community does for our country.

CORNWELL, JOHN TRAVERS VC SERVICE

 

Cadets from Waltham Forest Sea Cadets attended the 100 year service for Boy Seaman 1st class CORNWELL, JOHN TRAVERS VC who died in the Battle of Jutland in1916. Cadets along with Royal Navy and the royal British Legion attend a special service in Leyton where the boy seaman was born. Pictured is the 1st Sea Lord at the service.

John Travers Cornwell VC (8 January 1900 – 2 June 1916), commonly known as Jack Cornwell or as Boy Cornwell, is remembered for his gallantry at the Battle of Jutland. Having died at the age of only 16, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Cornwell is the third-youngest recipient of the VC.
