Swansea Success at Wales Wales District...

Swansea Sea Cadets have kept up their impressive results at district competitions this weekend.

Swansea's kayaking team won 16 of the 17 races held at the West Wales district competition last Sunday, meaning all 12 team members will go through in at least two races to the South West Area combined regatta in Bristol later this month. They will join a very strong District team of rowing, sailing and power boat handling teams - including Swansea's Sail Boat Handling team, who won earlier this month - to compete against reginal winners from all over the South West of England and Wales.

Kayaking coach, Petty Officer Rhodri Thomas said "The whole team are immensely proud of their achivements and rightly so. This marks the best results Swansea unit has had in a kayaking competiton to date and stands the team in good stead for the far greater challenge at the Area competition in just under a fortnights time."

Swansea Sea Cadets will also be taking cadets to the Area Sailing Regatta in Portsmouth after winning across a broad range of sailing races at the local sailing competiton held at Margam's Eglwys Nunydd Reservoir. In all, the team secured both Gold and Silver in the Bosun Class races and Gold in the Topper class races meaning all of the teams competitiors that ventured out onto the water last Saturday have got a seat on the District team bus.

This in its self is a remarkable achievement considering that the competiton was held in some of the most challenging weather conditions the team has had to face, and despite the odd capsize the team continued on in a very professional manner to be the first over the line.
