Virtual Parading

Virtual Parading

During lockdown, many units and families have found it a very difficult time. In particular around Hertfordshire and our surrounding areas many of our sea cadet volunteers are frontline workers and therefore have not been in a position to be able to teach on a regular basis. However, St Albans unit have been in a position where we could offer regular virtual teaching sessions at least twice a week over Zoom. These sessions were also offerred to other units as well as allowing our cadets a chance to communicate and make friends with other unit cadets. I'm pleased to say that from St Albans unit point of view it was a great success with plenty of promotions and games around... we even had a Pirates of the Carribean night where we learnt the proper technique of how to anchor a ship or boat!

I'm pleased to say that from April till August, between the cadets they attended 42 online courses that were being run online across the UK. We also had at minimum of 7 cadets enrolled with at least 7 cadets being promoted. Thats quite an achievement in such circumstances!  BZ to everyone!

Remembrance Sunday 2016

Sunday 13th November 2016 was the Remembrance Sunday parade.

The cadets had a fantastic turnout, with over 50 Sea Cadets, Marine Cadets, Juniors and staff in attendance to represent the unit to pay respects. All of the cadets were very smart and a credit to the unit!

2016 Hertfordshire District Seamanship Competition

On Sunday 6th November, the St Albans unit hosted the annual Hertfordshire District Seamanship Competition.

The cadets participated in a range of activities, including Sea Terms, Building a gyn, Heaving the line, Knots, Raft building and others. Each team of 4 cadets were scored on each of the activities to give a combined team score at the end of the day.

There were 3 separate team age classifications. Junior Sea Cadets (age 10 to 12), Sea Cadets (age 12 - 15) and Sea Cadet Seniors (age 16+).

We are pleased to report that while the overall standards from all the cadets were very high and the team scores were very close, the St Albans teams did exceptionally well and managed to scoop the prizes in all 3 categories!

Well done to all of the cadets on their superb achievement!

Successful RNLI Charity Collection

On Saturday 1st October, 13 members of St Albans Sea and Marine Cadets assisted in collecting for the RNLI in the city centre. This was a very successful day, despite the wet weather, resulting in a fantastic collection of almost £500 for the RNLI.

This also contributed to the most successful collection day in St Albans in the history of the RNLI, with the cadets contributing to almost half of all moneys collected during the day.

Well done to all staff and cadets who volunteered on the day for this worthy cause!
