TS Royalist

TS Royalist

One of our cadets was lucky to gain a bursary to help pay for a week on the sea cadets flag ship TS Royalist.

Cadets spend 6 nights training, eating and sleeping on the 32- metre (105ft) brig taking part in all aspects of the ship

This takes teamwork and offers the challenge of handling sails. Watchkeeping duties and deck work are also a part of the experience.

Heartstart

On Saturday 18th March the juniors took part in the BHF hearstart course.

Due to the amount of juniors we had to have a Morning and afternoon course.

Juniors learnt the basics of First aid including, how to get help, the recovery position, How to deal with bleeding, chocking and a heart attack. They also covered how to perform CPR.

Leading cadet board

On the weekend of of 3rd - 5th March we had a cadet on his Leading Cadets board.

This is a tough board to attend, Olly was under assessment from the moment he arrived at HMS Excellent, he was assessed on they way he dressed (not just uniform inspections but also the Civies he arrived to the course in!)

Olly has to display a knowledge in all the things he has learnt since starting cadets  as well as displaying Power of Comand when taking the squad for drill, Leadership and teamwork skills. He also had to give a lesson to his peers on a sea cadet topic.

A lot of hard work was put in by him and we would like to express our thanks to the staff and cadets at Sheppey unit that helped prepare him for the board.

The hardwork payed off and Olly Passed the board. He is now preparing to get ready for his PO Cadets!
