A network of  4000 Beacons are being lit between 10 -1030pm by communities and others including Sea Cadets from across the UK,  Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, along with the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories, on Monday 4 June 2012 to celebrate HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. 

HM The Queen will light the first beacon in The Mall, London from 10pm, this will trigger the country wide network.

Britain has a long history of lighting beacons to celebrate a monarch’s Jubilee including in 1897 when beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria’s own Diamond Jubilee.

Stars from TV, film, theatre and music turned out in their hundreds to pay tribute to HM The Queen on Thursday 24 May. And Sea Cadets from five London units were invited to act as carpet bearers to welcome guests.

More than 800 people from David Hockney and Alan Bennett to Sir Paul McCartney and Tinie Tempah turned out at the Royal Academy for the celebration. Cadets had a chance to see some of the country’s biggest and most influential cultural icons as they lined the red carpet to welcome them.
This was a great opportunity for the charity to take centre stage and is an example of some of the amazing opportunities open to cadets as part of the Sea Cadet Corps.

The winners of this year’s Sea Cadet Royalist Regatta was Fort Vale Engineering, closely followed by last year’s winners the Royal Navy and while Sea Cadets themselves didn’t place they did win best dressed crew!

The Sea Cadet Royalist Regatta, now in its 15th year, sailed off Portsmouth on 16 May to raise funds for the charity. Sea Cadets aged 17 from Edmonton unit are also taking part.

Racing in Beneteau Oceanis 37’ yachts supplied by Fairview Sailing 11 teams were competing for the Shipwrights’ Trophy.

Captain Sea Cadets, Captain Mark Windsor RN, says: “We had a fantastic day for sailing. With 11 yachts and 88 competitors taking part in up to six races in the Solent there was fierce but friendly competition our congratulations to Fort Vale, very well done!.”

Kimberley Stubbs from Milton Keynes unit has been awarded a St Johns Ambulance Young First Aider of the Year award in recognition of her quick thinking which saved another young persons life.  She was presented with the award at a ceremony in London on May 13.

Kim, who is also a trampolining coach, used first aid training she gained in the Sea Cadets while coaching at her local gymnastic centre.  A student at the club had climbed back onto a trampoline during a break, did not land correctly and broke her bone in her forearm, severing an artery.  Kim acted fast and applied pressure directly to the wound whilst calling for assistance.  Kim maintained the pressure while calming the casualty until an ambulance arrived.

Kim holds the 2nd Class First Aid qualification gained during a first aid course held at the unit earlier in the year.

Sea cadets started the Jubilee celebrations in style at the Tower of London on May 1 2012.

Helping Pageantmaster, Bruno Peek OBE MVO OPR, to deliver the Jubilee Crystal Diamond which the Queen will use to light the National Beacon on June 4 2012, cadets processed behind the diamond  with the National Sea Cadet Massed Band of 60 cadets from all over the country who had been practising hard for the event.

The band played a composition, written by LC Holly Fraser-Morris from Sutton Coldfield unit, especially written for the occasion, and  buglers played another specially written composition by Portland Sea Cadets when the diamond was presented to the Governor of the Tower of London.

Guests at the event included the First Sea Lord, Second Sea Lord and Captain Sea Cadets as well as friends and relatives who came along to show their support.
