In order to continue to receive support from the Royal Navy, the unit is inspected annually.

New District Officer, Lt Cdr (SCC) Damien Brown RNR visited the unit along with other district staff to meet the cadets, and to observe how the unit operates.

To celebrate the achievements of the cadets through 2011, District Officer Lt Cdr (SCC) David Mckee attended the unit on Monday 30 January.

After ceremonial colours, Lt Cdr Mckee inspected the ships company, before presenting certificates for some of the recent qualifications gained within the unit.

Voted for by the unit staff, the following annual awards were presented:

  • Most promising new comer- MC2 W Candlin
  • Best dressed Royal Marine Cadet- Cpl M Kelly
  • Best Dressed Sea Cadet- LC R Law
  • Best community support and fundraising- LC N Garforth
  • Best achievements in afloat training- LC R Price
  • Best Achievements in general training- LC J Asif
  • Most improved Royal Marine Cadet- LCpl J Gregory
  • Most improved Sea Cadet- OC J Lee
  • Most improved Junior Cadet- Jr S White
  • Best Sea Cadet- LC J Asif
  • Best Royal Marine Cadet- LCpl N Murphy
  • Overall Best Cadet- LC R Saunders

Another presentation was made to PO D Amos and Sgt J Gallacher for their efforts in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, who have been involved with the scheme for 5 and 10 years respectively.

Well Done to all the cadets that recieved awards.

This was the very last event attended by Lt Cdr Mckee as the District Officer as from 1 Feburary, his role will be filled by Lt Cdr D Brown.

13 November 2011 ~ Remembrance Parade- Middleton

The unit paraded along side vetrans as well as the other cadet forces to show their support to the Royal British Legion to remember those who have lost their lives in the world wars and conflicts since.

There was a strong presence in Middleton, with a sizable contingent from the Sea Cadets, and far more civilian supporters than before.

This year saw a change to the procedings at the cenotaph, with the Sea Cadet and British Legion standards both being carried by members of the unit, along side the union flag, and this year also saw the Lord Mayor of Rochdale in attendance.

The unit looked very smart on parade and did themselves and the unit proud. BZ

The unit provided a number of cadets to support neighbouring Manchester district for a parade through the centre of the city, with a short ceremony at the steps of the Town Hall.

The event was over seen by Lord Lt for Manchester who took the salute from the guard of honour, as well as other officials including NW Area Officer, Lt Col Davies RM, and Sea Cadet Senior Staff Officer, Commander (SCC) Evans RNR.

A note worthy mention must go to AC Price who was the only member of the 24 strong honour guard from NE Lancs District, let alone the unit. 

Other cadets and staff from the unit marched as part of divisions overseen by the OiC of the unit who is also the District Coordinator for Ceremonial.

23 October 2011 ~ National Trafaglar Celebrations

Four of the unit's PT cadets took part along with many other Sea and Marine Cadets from across the coutry to comemorate Lord Nelson's victory at the Battle of Traflagar in 1805.

The cadets in question opened the celebrations with a display including club swinging and the skip jump.
