HMS Ocean "Families" Day

HMS Ocean "Families" Day

Following a special invitation from HMS Ocean our affiliated ship, Cadets and Staff travelled to it's home base at Plymouth for a "Families Day". On arrival at the ship, after being graciously accommodated at HMS Raleigh nearby, including a surprise evening trip to Looe, the group were met and ushered on board for a truly unforgetable day, witnessed at first hand was the leaving harbour routine, led out by tugs, through the very tight channels to the open sea. First was a tour around the various static displays on the vehicle and hanger decks showing various facets of the ship's makeup. Later a simulated attack was carried out on the ship by a Hawk trainer and displays by a lynx and sea king helicopter on landing and take off drills. It was a beautiful warm, sunny day and a packed lunch provided by the ship, was enjoyed up on the flight deck along with many of the families of the ship's company. Further tours around the ship were taken and fire-fighting practise was all part of the fun.A trip around the ship was taken in an LCVP provided by members of 9 Assault Sqdn RM, courtesy of an ex member of TS Trafalgar, set the seal on the day.
An evening return to Plymouth ended what turned out to be an unforgettable day for Cadets and Staff alike. Letters of thanks will be sent to our hosts who are now off on deployment.

Parents & Supporters Association

Parents & Supporters Association

Unfortunately, due to various reasons, the P&SA are seriously depleted now but four or five parents have kindly taken on the challeng, but we could still do with more volunteers, Mums, Dads, family or anyone who could give up a small amount of their spare time to assist in fund-raising or preparing the Cadet's "stand-easy" on a Tuesday and Friday evening,or to generaly assisting,to enable the very hard working Staff to concentrate on the classes. Please contact the Unit if you feel you can assist in any way possible.
