Stephenson Trophy Winners 2014

HASTINGS SEA CADETS WIN AGAIN.

TS Hastings Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets are very proud to have been awarded the Stephenson Trophy for 2014. Unit President Rear Admiral John Kingwell Royal Navy, Director Development, Concepts & Doctrine Centre attended the Units Annual Awards Ceremony and was very pleased to receive this award on behalf of the Cadets and Adult Volunteers. It has been another brilliant year for TS Hastings Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets, with a great deal of continued hard work whilst currently working in very cramped conditions as they rebuild their new Main Deck building with local company Mckimmie Builders completion due at the end of the year of a brand new bespoke classrooms and sleeping accommodation together with outdoor climb wall. Not only have they retained their Burgee award for 2014 but they have been awarded the Southern Area Sea Cadets Stephenson Trophy for 2014. This is awarded to the unit assessed by Area Officer Commander John Greene Royal Navy and Area staff as the best Unit in the South East of England Area. All Areas’ Stephenson Trophy winners then compete for the Canada Trophy to be the best in the Country, last won by Hastings in 1958.

Our New Building

Our New Building

We are currently having great changes made at TS Hastings Sea Cadets with thanks to the generous inheritance received from Ex-Commanding Officer Lt Cdr (SCC) Lance Tyler RNR. Our old Main Deck was a second hand RAF building received in the 1940’s arriving flat packed by train, offloaded at Bulverhythe and erected by the then cadets, adults and parents of TS Hastings SCC. This had come to the end of this serviceability and parts were, no longer able to be used as such a new building was very much needed. With thanks to Lt Cdr Tyler we have been able to build a bespoke new Main Deck Building. Incorporating much wanted running water allowing toilets and showers, along with fitted bunks in classrooms, a top deck terraced roof allowing the rebuild of the once seen observation deck and a new out doors climb wall. Once complete we will then be the Land Based, Centre of Excellence in Sussex, attracting many opportunities for our cadets and many more cadets to follow over many more years. We are now finding funds are running very low and more help is needed.

National Colditz Award 2013

National Colditz Award 2013

Well done to allthe cadets and adult Volunteers we are pleased to advise along with retaining our Burgee award for 2013 we have won The National Colditz Award which takes the form of a certificate, boxed medal and a sum of money, from a capital fund donated by the Colditz Association, which consisted of former Prisoners of War who were incarcerated in Colditz Castle between 1940 and 1945. It is awarded to the unit which is considered by CSC to have done most to help members of its local community during the year. The money is to be spent on a project which will further Sea Cadet training.
