Successful RYA inspection

Successful RYA inspection

Coventry Sea Cadets is recognised as a RYA (Royal Yachting Association) recognised training centre, where we can deliever our own training and can award sailing, powerboating and windsurfing qualifications without cadets having to go and do external courses. Alot of hard work goes into running the training center, from boat maintainence to ordering certificates. Every year we have an inspection from a Trainer from the RYA (someone who teaches sailing instructors how to be sailing instructors- so they really know their stuff!).

We had an extra successful inspection this year- we passed as an RYA centre, but we also awarded two Stage 2 sailing awards that day too- well done to the two cadets who worked hard to acheive this, and congratualation to WO Warwick and Lt Ryder for their hard work in preparing for the inspection and entertaining the inspector on the day.

Although we are now rolling into the quieter afloat season due to the colder weather, it's a great time to have a think about what you would like to do next year!

Busy Boating Week!

Busy Boating Week!

It's been a busy summer, finishing with the annual unit boating week at Whale Island in Portsmouth. Across the week cadets took part in a range of afloat training including kayaking, sailing, rowing and powerboating to upskill and gain qualifications on the water.

Well done to everyone for the efforts they put in on their respective courses, reflected in the impressive range of qualifications.

The annual unit boating week is a long standing tradition at Coventry, and an important date in our calendars! 2026 is already booked, so make sure you save the date!

Congratulations to our two new Petty Officer Cadet

Congratulations to our two new Petty Officer Cadet

Huge congratulations to our two newly minted Petty Officer Cadets, POC Layfield-Thompson and POC Chester! They have worked incredibly hard to reach the highest rank possible as a cadet, passing a challenging selection board with flying colours.

POC Layfield-Thompson and POC Chester have been excellent rolemodels at the unit over the years and demonstrated leadership and committment. To become a POC you must demonstate progression during your time as a cadet, and both POC Layfield-Thompson and POC Chester have acheived one of the highest rowing qualifications nationally too!

When looking back at their cadet career so far, and what advice they would give their younger selves, they reflected that persistence if key and to take risks, make friends and have fun!

Congratulations both!

Birmingham Military Tattoo 2025

Birmingham Military Tattoo 2025

On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February, Coventry Sea Cadets took a trip to the NEC in Birmingham to be part of the International Military Tattoo which is a parade like no other! The event included marching bands, pipes & drums, field gun racing, dog racing, standard bearers, and dance teams and much more. There is well over 1,000 performers involved, so it was such an honour to be invited to this prestigious event and be able to represent the Sea Cadets!

The cadets got to put their drill skills into action, in an excellent demonstration of skills and teamwork- well done team!
