CREST Awards!

CREST Awards!

Congratulations to JCFC Delaney and JC Jaffray for recently earning their British Science Association CREST Awards.

The Basingstoke Unit recently took the innovative decision to progress our STEM awards scheme by setting optional weekly homework assignments to our Junior Cadets.  Those taking part have loved the idea and cannot wait to evidence their work to the Junior Training Staff each Friday.

This forms part of the units big push to help progress all of our Junior Cadets through the invaluable STEM programme that Sea Cadets has to offer.  In conjunction with the home learning tasks (That parents seem to enjoy as much as our Cadets), we also have the SCC STEM Coordinator visiting the unit on the 5th August to deliver two workshops to all of our Cadets, including Seniors.

The BSA CREST award recognises the completion of 8 STEM modules with their Superstar Award (Certficate & Badge).  Cadets then go on to complete another 7 modules to earn their full SCC STEM Proficiency Award and badge.

We hope our parents are enjoying getting involved as much as our Cadets are and we anticipate many more CREST and STEM awards over the coming weeks.

AT LAST!!

AT LAST!!

After a great deal of effort, a suitable HIAB crane was arranged for today to help us construct the container that we had delivered earlier in the year.  The unit can now benefit from secure and extra storage for boats, outboards and other equipment that usually needs to be transported to the lake each and every time we go boating.

A HUGE thank you to all those who organised the container, crane and putting it together today.

Boating at the Lake - July 2

Boating at the Lake - July 2

A great showing by the Cadets and staff members today enabling us to put 13 cadets on the water for the full day.

Rowers made good progress and built on their work from their last session and coped especially well with close in manoeuvres considering the blustery conditions.

One Cadet received power boating instruction whilst another 9 manned 4 of our Quest dinghies to make the most of the windy conditions.

Another great day enjoyed by all at Burghfield
