District Boating Weekend

Over the weekend of 30th – 1st September 2013 cadets from Arbroath, Dundee, Perth, Methil and Rosyth took part in a District Boating Weekend at Dundee Sea Cadets. The cadets spent the weekend sailing, rowing and powerboating. They also had a chance to launch the RIBs at Broughty Ferry and spend the afternoon on the River Tay.

On Saturday 31st August 2013 Northern Area Band (Scotland) opened Dundee Rotary Club’s charity event with a static display on a stage in City Centre. The event, which is organised annually by the club, gives local charities the chance to raise awareness within the city and collect funds. Dundee unit also took advantage of the event by running a recruitment drive.

Northern Area Sea Cadet Band (Scotland) took part in the Fintry Gala Day Parade. This has become an annual event which involves a short parade from the community centre to Fintry Mains Parish Church followed by a twenty minute performance by the band. National Band Contest 2013

National Band Contest 2013

Northern Area Band (Scotland) travelled to London on Friday 16th August 2013 to take part in the Sea Cadets National Band Contest. This event is held every second year unlike most other national competitions which are held annually.

The band, which has spent many weekends over the past few months putting together a musical display for the competition, had their uniform and instruments inspected before stepping off to perform for the Royal Marine Band judges on the greens of The Tower of London.

Edit:  The results are in... Northern Area Band (Scotland) came 6th in this national competition. Well done to all involved!

Arbroath Sea Fest 2013

Arbroath Sea Cadets once again attended the Arbroath Sea Fest over the weekend of 3rd and 4th August 2013. The cadets ran a sponge throw which was thoroughly enjoyed by the passing crowds. Fife and Tayside Band, which includes cadets from Perth, Dundee and Arbroath units, provided entertainment throughout the day on Sunday at the Harbour area. The Unit Management Team also took advantage of this fantastic fundraising opportunity by organising a raffle which was run over the two days.
