HMS Sutherland visit

26 Mar 2011
All Inverness Sea Cadets attended a visit to HMS Sutherland berthed at Invergordon and received a tour of the ship by the ships company. We had immense fun getting to see all over the ship and getting to dress up in the ships fire fighting equipment.

Cadet Ski Week 2, 2011

20-25 March 2011
OC Hall and Cdts MacLeod and Scott enjoyed learning to ski at the Lecht and Cairngorm ski resorts. Based in Newtonmore, the course was attended by both cadets and staff from across the Northern Area. This wasnt just for experienced skiers, but an opportunity for beginners to get a taste of skiing. Everyone who attended had great fun and went away with some new skills and a hobby.

Whilst the skiers were out in the snow and trying not to fall over, on Tuesday 22nd, the remainder of TS Briton were in their best uniform enjoying the Royal Marines Band Concert at Eden Court Theatre, supporting the Seafarers UK charity. Many compliments about the smart turnout and politeness were received from both the organiser, Captain Nick Davies, and from the public.

Rollerbowl 2010

16-Dec-10

It was to be a game of two halves, and with 3 full lanes, the competition was tough. Standing out in their class in their first bowl were Ross and Anthony with a spare, while nothing very obvious happened amongst the staff, other than PO Stewart missing completely.

In the Juniors, Samuel started off badly, by missing everything having been denied the bumper rails, fighting his way up to win game 1 with the help of 3 spares. This knocked Ross into 2nd place, while Cameron took 3rd.
Meanwhile in the Cadets, John took the lead with his second bowl, and Anthony slipped all the way back to 4th until he found his stride again and regained the lead at the 3rd, and stayed there to win, Scott showed great flair throughout but only delivered 2nd, while John sauntered into 3rd place.

The second half started with PO Stewart taking a double strike to be followed by another at the end, and a single strike thrown in between for good measure, giving him the high score for the night, but as staff, it doesnt count!
Phillip and Cameron improved their game on the second outing while Ross and Samuel suffered from exhaustion after the first half, but on his first contest away from the rails, it was Samuel that finished overall Top Junior Boy, with Ross Runner-up, and Cameron in Third. Top Junior Girl from the start was Lorin, no contest!
In the Cadets, everyone picked up the pace in the second round, but Scott shot ahead to take the top score of the night (seeing as PO Stewart doesnt count!), with John and Anthony not far behind. At the rear of the pack, it was very closely fought and while Daniel almost doubled his first score, Nathan and Blane made big improvements leaving Ryan and Lewis fighting for survival. In the end though, it was Anthony that took the honnors, with Scott Runner up, and John in Third. Again, the Top Girl Cadet was a clear victory, this time for Rhiannon.

PO Lindsay will be chuft that having been second in both games, he came out on top, knocking PO Stewart to take Runner up and Mr Balfour Third. Sir was very nearly mentioned!

Karen Darke

7th Dec 2010.
We had a visit from Karen Darke, who at the age of 21 became paralysed from the chest down as the result of a cliff fall.

Karen told of her determination to challenge physical and mental barriers, competing in marathons, triathlons, kayaking, sit-skiing and hand-cycling.

Her trips have included a crossing of the Tien Shan and Karakoram mountains on a hand bike raising £12,000 for charity, hand-cycling in Japan and kayaking the Canada - Alaska coastline.

Karens recent adventure was a 600km crossing of the Greenland ice cap, a journey which took one month and would be challenging enough for an able-bodied person.

Karen is now training to take part in the 2012 Paralympics. We wish her well and hope she can come back and tell us about it some day.

We all learned something from this remarakable young woman - no matter what obstacles are in your way, live life to the full.
