Guildford Sea cadets have been chosen by the staff at the High street branch of Sainsburys as their local charity of the year. Guildford store manger Patrick Higgins said our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can play our part to support it. When we heard about Guildford Sea cadets and what they needed we just wanted to help out as much as we could. So on Thurs 12th February Sharon Gillies from Sainsburys attended one of the Sea cadet regular evening parades and presented a cheque for £500. Petty Officer Pat Francis The Sea cadets Commanding officer who accepted the donation on the units behalf thanked Sainsburys for their support. She said we want to be able to provide our 50 young people with activities that are fun but meaningful on the water or onshore, interacting with others and trying new things. We also want to ensure that our cadets make a positive contribution to their community. I have a dedicated team of unpaid volunteers but they need resources including money to achieve those things. The unit is a charity that raise all its own finances, this money will enable us to fund more cadet activities so I really am extremely grateful to Sainsburys for their support.
