Remembrance Parade 2011

Remembrance Parade 2011

Cadets and staff once again provided a contingent to both Barnsley and Grimethorpe Armistice Parades.

One half of the unit, including the Royal Marine Cadets, paraded at the Cenotaph in Barnsley with Royal Marine Cadet Yarwood-Milne leading the parade carrying the Union Flag on behalf of the Royal British Legion. Able Cadet Norton followed on behind and carried the Standard on behalf of Barnsley Branch of the Royal Naval Association.

Over in Grimethorpe, the remainder provided a four point Sentinel guard on the Centaph for the duration of the Remembrance, then provided and marching guard leading the march-past.

In both parades refreshments were made available for the cadets following the ceremonies.

This September, Barnsley Unit was once again invited to take part in the biggest gathering of standard bearers in the north of England. Around 75 standards were drawn from various ex-service organisations and along with the Sea Cadets, provided a very colourful display of banners and uniforms.

Eden Camp in North Yorkshire provided the venue with the backdrop proving to be a very fitting scene. Guest of Honour was Commodore Sutermeister - President of Area 11 RNA. Cdre Sutermeister also took the salute of past veterens as they marched past.
