Silver is the new Gold!

Silver is the new Gold!

Well, just for the time being it is.

I was over the moon to see 7 of our cadets receive their Silver DofE awards after successfully completing all of the required elements over the past 12 months. The Area officer, Cdr Russ RN commented on how pleased he was to see how successful we are with our DofE programme and I must also admit that it fills me with a great sense of pride.

We have not had significant participation in the DofE award for the past 20 years and thanks, especially to C/Sgt (SCC) C Folland, we now have double figures of bronze award holders and we are making excellent headway with silver! watch this space as we now have several people who are on the route to go for gold!!!

T.S SUPERB goes green

And it has nothing to do with the Royal Marines Cadets!

After an interesting 12 months with the improvement works we are carrying out at the unit, I was super happy to receive a commendation from Stafford council's 'green awards'. over the past year, we have invested in new LED lighting to replace the old energy inefficient 'CFL' light tubes, we have bought new, better rated white goods and we have replaced our essential computers with more energy efficient models.

We managed to fund these improvements using a £1000 which came through a grant from the council, supported by the local group 'we love Littleworth' (which is the area in Stafford our unit is located) as well as using the unit's own funds. the full report on our works can be found at the link below

Barcelona in disguise?

Once again we attended a competition and walked away victors! this time was the district 5a-side competition.

We will be taking 3 of the 4 district teams to the area competition in January, the junior girls, senior girls and the senior boys, all of which were the champions of their respective competitions at district level

Cakes 4 Commandos

To celebrate the Royal Marines birthday (28th October for those of you who don't know) we hosted a charity cake sale to raise money for The Royal Marines Charity. We held the event on the same night as our AGM so we had parents, committee and supporters present and we raised a fantastic £100! there were some fantastic cakes on display and the effort that went into making them was clear to see. A big thank you to everyone that donated the cakes and their hard earned money

On a Quest

Thanks to the John Merrick Sailing Trust, we finally got our brand new RS Quest on the water! With the wind blowing a steady force 3, we really got to see it in full flight and the Cadets settled quickly into how she handled. its an amazing boat and we really look forward many more seasons sailing it!
