T. S. Whaddon was inspected by Cdr. Trevor Price, RN Rtd., our Area Officer and our Guests Of Honour were Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher Bt., Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire in a private capacity, the Mayor and Mayoress of Milton Keynes and other distinguished guests.
At the conclusion of the evening Cdr. Price’s stated that he was most impressed with the smartness and bearing of the cadets and their enthusiastic commitment to the demonstration of skills. This was a unit obviously functioning well and he stated that he would have no hesitation in recommending to Captain, Sea Cadets that the unit be awarded a burgee (top 25%) but went on to say that he considered us to be in the top three of sixty eight units in his area, ergo top 5%. He continued that such a unit did not happen by accident and could only occur when a skilled and dedicated staff working under a gifted OiC came together as a team to forge such a unit. Outstanding achievements included boating hours nearly 50% above target in a four month boating season ten miles from our boating station, winning the National First Aid Trophy for the past 3 years and being on our 6th successive Lord Lieutenant's Cadet. We also received the rarely-awarded Captain's Commendation last year.
There was a raffle organised by Gillian Perris, Chair of the Parent and Supporters' Association, and Claire Marshall which raised nearly £100 for unit funds
