Mayor Boris Johnson Visits Merton Unit

Mayor Boris Johnson Visits Merton Unit

This morning the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson visited Merton Sea Cadets unit where, “he unveiled a new programme to boost the job prospects of thousands of young Londoners and steer them away from involvement in crime.”

Merton Sea Cadet was extremely privileged to be the host of this prestigious occasion, many organisations like The Sea Cadets attended this event to raise awareness for the different opportunities that young people aged 10-18 can get up to after school. Extra-Curricular activities like the Sea Cadets are a brilliant way of gaining new skills, qualities and new friends.

YOU London is a unique partnership of ten of the oldest, largest and most experienced uniformed youth organisations in London. In plans outlined by the Mayor today, thousands of youngsters will have the opportunity to join uniformed groups like the Guides, Scouts and Cadets. The £1.3 million programme, being run by the Safer London Foundation, will help young people develop vital skills and instil discipline and responsibility in young people, particularly those who are or at risk of being excluded from education, training or employment.

T.S Trafalgar’s 100th Anniversary Dinner

Held on Thursday 14th October in the company of parents, friends, guests and distinguished guests, the unit laid on a fantastic display and dinner, which commemorated the 100th year of our unit’s history. T.S Trafalgar as many may still remember was known as Wimbledon Unit, which has recently has been changed to Merton Sea Cadets due to our relocation. Although our cadets haven’t been part of a Mess dinner before, they showed that they can adapt to new situations.
