How to join

If you are interested in joining as a Junior Cadet, Cadet or Marine Cadet please complete the online form below.  We will reply to you either inviting you to come and visit the unit with your parents or guardian soon, or, we will let you know if there is a waiting list.  If there is a waiting list, we will get in touch with you again as soon as we are recruiting new cadets.    We will then invite you to come and have a look round, possibly at an open evening with other potential new cadets.

How to join as an adult volunteer

The Mansfield Unit is very active at Kings Mill Reservoir from April to September and we would be interested to hear from potential volunteers with skills in kayaking, power boat handling, sailing and rowing.    There are also opportunities for instructional volunteers without watersports skills, especially during the winter months when most activities are based indoors at our Quarry Lane building.   Volunteers with craft skills, general teaching skills and of course ex-naval personnel, can all contribute to providing a wide range of interesting lessons and activities for the cadets.
If teaching young people isn’t your thing, but you have business management skills, fund raising skills, trade skills or other professional skills, there may be a role for you on our Unit Management Team.    The Unit Management Team (UMT) periodically needs to draw on the expert knowledge and skills that a team drawn from a broad range of backgrounds will have.    The UMT meets about six times a year and is primarily responsible for making sure that the unit has sufficient funds to meet the training needs of the unit.
Adult volunteers don’t all need to commit a huge amount of time to the running of the unit, it is very useful to have a pool of people who we can call on when extra help is needed, especially covering for holidays and other periods when we are short staffed.   If you are interested in becoming an adult volunteer please click here, complete the online form and we will arrange a chat.
