Piece of unit history recovered and set for restoration
Lisburn Sea Cadets is delighted to announce the recovery of an important piece of the unit's history: the original "T.S. Ulster" sign that once hung outside the unit and was long thought to have been destroyed.
After many years missing, the sign was found by a collector and spotted for sale by chance by the unit. Whilst the circumstances surrounding its disappearance remain mysterious, its return marks a significant milestone in reconnecting with our unit's history, especially given our recent celebration of 60 years in the Lisburn community.
This sign is more than an object: it connects us to the very first cadets and volunteers who walked through the unit doors over 60 years ago.
Restoration Work Begins
With the sign safely back in unit hands, volunteers will begin the careful process of restoring it. The aim is to return it to its former glory and for it to greet every new cadet who walks into the unit as it did for decades, restoring its pride of place in the mighty TS Ulster.
Continuing the important work of TS ulster
With this relic back in our hands, we are excited at the prospect of finding more. We know from research conducted over our 60th anniversary that there are more unique objects missing from the history of TS Ulster, some dating back to the original opening of the unit, that we would love to recover and restore, if you have any information about antiques that may have come from our unit, or any other in Northern Ireland, please contact the unit.
