Eastbourne win Gibraltar Cup Trophy

Eastbourne win Gibraltar Cup Trophy

05/04/2012

Winners this year of the coveted Gibraltar Cup Trophy were Eastbourne, the second year running. And it was a close run between Bristol Adventurer and Bedford, who came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The competition is a series of challenges and assessments that test the skill, knowledge and fitness of the teams on the same training ground as the Royal Marine Commandos at the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone, Devon . Only a fit, dedicated, well trained and cohesive detachment takes the trophy.

Well done to all 48 cadets of the top six UK detachments who took part.

We are celebrating the Gibraltar Cup weekend, 2-4 March with a change of identity on our Facebook page.

www.facebook.com/seacadetsuk

Each year Royal Marines Cadets detachments from units across the UK compete at the Royal Marines Commando training centre at Lympstone, Devon, to win the Gibraltar Cup. There are 117 detachments across the UK including the Falkland Islands and Malta with cadets aged between 13 and 18.

This year we are filming it so a short clip to give a taste of the experience will feature in the next cadet magazine, Current, due out in April and available via the website for download. And we’ll post the results of the winner next week, along with pictures.

It’s a tough two day course and great fun. So this weekend we wish all of our Royal Marines Cadets and the volunteers that train and guide them the best of luck for a cracking weekend.

This event is not open to the public.

North West are 5-a-side Champions!

North West are 5-a-side Champions!

Teams from all over the country travelled to Gosport to compete in the four classes - Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Senior Girls and Senior Boys - for the National 5-a-side, with the ultimate goal of returning with the Lord Burnham Trophy awarded to the winning area.

The atmosphere was competitive but friendly as teams cheered each other on.  Eastern Area took the Wilmott Cup for the Senior Girls, OC A Gregory from London Area, OC G Phillips from Northern Ireland and OC M Watt from Northern Ireland took player of the match for Junior Girls, Senior Girls and Junior Boys respectively.

However the overwhelming winners were North West Area who took home the Wain Cup for Junior Girls, the Ganges Cup for Junior Boys, the Guinness Cup for Senior Boys and the Lord Burnham Trophy for overall winning area, as well as Cpl C Woods winning player of the match  in the Senior Boys competition.

CSC, Captain Mark Windsor also took to the pitch in a friendly match along with two Area Officers.

Congratulations go out to all the cadets who showed great sportsmanship throughout and to the volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes, making the event run smoothly.
