Remembrance Parade 2022

Remembrance Parade 2022

Remembrance Sunday offers an opportunity to remember the service and sacifice of all those that have defended our freedoms.

Basingstoke Sea Cadets were extremely proud to again be part of the Basingstoke Parade and Remembrance Service along with a multitude of other cadets forces, veterans and service personnel.

Capped by a Chinook fly past by the RAF, the day was represented wonderfully by young and older alike.  Many people turned out in the fantastic weather to line the route and our cadets did us all proud.

Unit BBQ 2022

Unit BBQ 2022

On Friday the 22nd July the unit hosted an open evening and BBQ.

It was extremely well attended by parents, siblings, staff and cadets who all had opportunities to get some great insight in to what we get up to.  We hosted four different activity stands of Rowing, Sailing, Recreational and Teamwork & Seamanship which everyone seemed to enjoy and watching the parents and siblings getting hands on with boats and equipment was very rewarding.

The UMT did a fantastic job of providing and cooking all of the food and organising the tombola.

Aside from a bit of rain, it was a great evening enjoyed by all.

Boating at the Lake - July 23

Boating at the Lake - July 23

Another great day at the lake for our cadets and staff this past Saturday.

Rowers again made great progress and new rowers picked things up really well and slotted in to the crew seamlessly. Congratulations to Cadets Delaney and Baker for completing their Competent Crew practical elements with just the theory to go which will be the focus of this coming Fridays parade night.  Cadet O'hara also made good progress towards her Supervised Coxswain.

Sailors enjoyed some favourable conditions and also made good progress really enjoying their day in a Quest.

Remembering the Sailors of the Mary Rose

On Sunday the 17th July, Basingstoke Unit; TS Mary Rose had the honour of being invited by the Mary Rose Trust to attend the annual rememberance service for the lost sailors of the Mary Rose after three years of absence due to the COVID Pandemic.

The service was held at Portsmouth Cathedral and was very well attended by SCC, Trust Members and public.

The Mary Rose Trust then treated our Cadets, Staff and accompanying parents to a visit to the Mary Rose Exhibit at the Historic Dockyard, together with a fantastic harbour tour on a Falklands Conflict era Landing Craft.

Whilst a solemn occasion, it was a day that was very much enjoyed by all who attended.
