On Saturday 14 November Wandsworth again hosted other units Chiswich and Greenwich who were taking part with Wandsworth in escorting the Lord Mayor down river to Tower Bridge which was raised in his honour. He alighted at Tower Bridge Steps in order to take part in the public parade of his inauguration. He processes from The Guildhall via Mansion House and St. Paul's Cathedral to the Royal Courts of Justice where the new Lord Mayor swears allegiance to the Crown. It is an early start for the 20 cadets and the 5 adult instructors and the escort fortilla included 2 Ribs and 3 Champs from the Sea Cadets and 30 Livery companies rowing. Quite a spectacle. Three of our cadets took part in the Parade with the Sea Cadet Corp marching platoon.
On Sunday 8th November Wandsworth Ship's Company marched with members of the Royal British Legion, Royal Marines, T.A., Army cadets, Air Cadets, Police cadets, scouts, cubs and beavers as the community of Wandsworth down Putney High Street to the wonderful sound of the Pipe Band to a remembrance service held at St Mary Church on Putney Bridge. A very good turn out with many members of the public watching and clapping.
Weekend 6-9 November Bideford Unit stayed over at Wandsworth for the second time, I think they like us (or at least London). During their stay they attended the Remembrance Day Parade at Whitehall, taking in the Houses of Parliament on the Monday. On their previous stay 5-6 September they attended a Service at the Merchant Navy Memorial which is situated near the Tower of London.
1 November Wandsworth Unit hosted the District Cross County and Tug of War Competition for the Second Year. The event went well and weather stayed dry. Wandsworth Unit fared well with JSC 2nd, Girls 2nd and Junior Boys 4th giving us 4th place overall. Eight units competed.
Weekend 16-18 October Warsash visits Wandsworth and has a very busy time. Saturday the Unit headed off to Greenwich to see all that it had to offer and Sunday morning an early start to Trafalgar Square to watch the Sea Cadet Corps hold the Trafalgar Day Parade celebrating Nelson's Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar.
4 Visit to Brasil - Our cadets were lucky enough to be invited to visit the Brazilian Training Ship NE Brasil when she was berthed alongside HMS Belfast in the Pool of London. Annually the ship conducts the Midshipman's Training Voyage which complements the theoretical knowledge gained at the Brazilian Naval Academy. At the end of the training voyage they are promoted to 2nd Lieutenant (equivalent to Sub Lieutenant RN). The cadets were shown round the ship and were able to meet some of the Midshipmen to find out a bit about what it is like to serve in the Brazilian Navy.
