Sea Cadets from across the UK are in pole position as they will be leading their Patron HM The Queen's Jubilee barge, The Spirit of Chartwell, down the Thames on June 3 in celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

Cadets are training hard in preparation as they will be the focal point in a huge procession of over 1,000 vessels as they crowd the Thames to honour the Queen’s jubilee as part of a huge Thames pageant, the likes of which hasn’t been seen since 1717.

The boats, Trinity 500's, were specially designed for Sea Cadets by Olympic dinghy medallist Jo Richards and will be fitted with an outboard motor supplied by Suzuki GB.

Also taking part is the flagship, TS Royalist which will be moored in the river as part of the Avenue of Sail.

We will be centre stage again on Tuesday 5th when Leading Cadet Hannah from Beckenham & Dulwich unit will be leading the Diamond Jubilee National Service of Thanksgiving at St Pauls which will be attended by HM The Queen and the Royal Family. Hannah is 16 and was recently promoted to Leading Cadet, she is also the first London cadet to be awarded the Aviation Bronze Wings, the proficiency for flying.

The Jubilee Beacons
A network of 4000 Beacons are being lit between 10-10.30pm by communities and others including Sea Cadets from across the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, along with the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories, on Monday 4 June 2012 to celebrate HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

HM The Queen will light the first beacon in The Mall, London from 10pm, this will trigger the country wide network.

Britain has a long history of lighting beacons to celebrate a monarch's Jubilee including in 1897 when beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria’s own Diamond Jubilee.

Sea Cadets is a national youth charity offering amazing opportunities to young people to help them build life skills and confidence. Your donation will help us to help more young people.
