March has seen the return to Sea Cadet competitions, our first cadets Offshore in over two years and a strong return to boating!

Starting with competions, March saw the Drill and Piping competition take place with Sutton Coldfield performing strong! The colour party and unarmed teams came 2nd, with the piping team and individuals coming 1st. For the first competition in 2 years, the cadets should all be proud of their achievements!

We have enabled 5 cadets to go Offshore in March, with more due to go in the coming months. The experience is a one-of-a-kind and this is echo'd in cadet feedback and energies as they return to the unit.

Finally, we have launched our boating a month early to get cadets afloat! Starting with rowing and sailing, with plans to get cadets afloat kayaking and powerboating soon!

As the month of February concludes, we look at the achivement of our cadets who are embarking on new adventures and facing new challenges. The largest one being the reintroduction of competitions, starting with the Troop Drill competition!

1 Troop and 2 Troop combined their efforts to run their Troop Drill competition together! Sutton Coldfield Royal Marines Cadets Detachement came out on top in the Troop Drill competition, bringing home the Gold. They took 2nd place in the Company drill competition, holding their heads high as they make our Unit, and themselves, proud.

The unit also returned to its qualification strengths, delivering Marine Engineering and Meterology as a joint MACT across a weekend. Cadets gained Basic Marine Engineering qualifications and completed their Meterology Proficency badge whilst making unit-based memories.

Our cadets have also started to go further a-field, with cadets returning to District, Area and National courses, gaining qualifications and improving their cadet experience.

Welcome to a new year at TS Sutton Coldfield, where the energies are high and hopeful for a COVID "free" training year! With some restrictions still in place our volunteers are striving to find and test new ways of delivery to engage cadets better whilst we prepare for competitions!

The focus of January is the annual Drill and Piping competitions - with both Royal Marines Cadets and Sea Cadets training rigirously as they prepare to compete against other units and detachements in ceremonial drill and piping.

We have also given out qualifications earnt at the end of 2021, recognising the cadets hard work and determination through the challenging years.

We are excited for what the year brings!

As we finish our last parade the 'cadet year' comes to a close. We are happy to say we achieved Burgee Status and have been recommended, and issued, the Captain of the Sea Cadets Commendation. This is a very prestigious award and we can only thank our cadets for their support and efforts in achieving this. In December we gained:

2 x Qualifications

4 x Promotions

Thank you all once more and have a very Merry Christmas!
