Scarborough Royal Marines CATSEA assessment 2017
Amazing effort from our Royal Marine Cadet Detachment at this years CATSEA assessment!!!
They have been graded Good with a score of 77 out of 100, which is an outstanding result and testimony to their commitment and hard work over the last 12 months.
They impressed with their communication and direct effectiveness in the section attack element. It was a pleasure to see them going through their drills smartly and as a collective. The work ethic and standards that they have become accustomed to have been clearly evident this weekend.
On a personal note the cadets have never stopped smiling throughout, they never stopped encouraging one another and looked out for each other to a man.
The last few weeks have been hard for the unit. This weekend is proof of the Sea Cadet Family again and how close we are. We would like to thank Capt Palmer and X-ray Company combined mess for their tribute to our friend & Detachment Commander last night it was a lovely moment and your support has been appreciated from all at TS Scarborough. We are strong together & #smartasacarrot
Again the Corps family and the Detachment have done us all proud and they have done "the DC" proud!!
We are setting off now and will update on an ETA after we've stopped for a celebratory Maccy D's!!!!

Scarborough Sea Cadets won top honours at the annual Eastern Area Conference in December 2015 for the outstanding year’s hard work & achievements. They have been recognised with three awards including the prestigious Stephenson Trophy given to the best unit in the whole of Eastern Area of Sea Cadets.
Eastern Area consists of 63 Sea Cadet units with over 2600 cadets aged between 10-18yrs. Training Ship Scarborough has had a bumper year, excelling in everything that is the “Sea Cadet Experience”.
They were also awarded the best Unit Participating in Offshore Award which is for all their time away sailing on the corps’ flag ship TS Royalist & the corps yachts around the UK. This also takes into account their voyages on the Jubilee Sailing Trust tall ships Lord Nelson & Tenacious.
Best Training & Participation Award highlights the competitions that the units enter throughout the Sea Cadet calendar, including their debut in the National Band Competition at the Tower of London, a silver medal at National Combined Regatta, bronze medal in the National Drill Competition at HMS Raleigh. This also recognises that the ship’s company have been fully engaged in attaining new qualifications across a wide spectrum of subjects increasing their qualified instructor’s in dinghy sailing, power boating, rowing & having the only Level 2 British Sliding Seat Rowing Coach in the Eastern Area.
They had cadets attend National & Area courses throughout the year at various locations including Beckingham Training Camp, other SCC Units and Sea Cadet Training Centre’s Raleigh, Excellent & Caledonia. A cadet was even lucky enough to go on the International Exchange to Canada spending 2 weeks with other nationalities, whilst visiting Canadian Naval establishments & ships. They also had a cadet complete the SCC Aviation Course gaining her gold wings & flying solo in small aircraft. A remarkable achievement.
The Stephenson Trophy is awarded to the best unit in Eastern Area recognising all of their achievements and effort throughout the year and is the trophy everyone wants. This is testament to the whole Ships Company’s all-round work ethic, teamwork & commitment. Striving towards the common goal to get as many cadets doing activities & gaining experiences that they will remember for life.
Acting Sub-Lieutenant (SCC) Natalie Davies RNR said “It goes without saying I am immensely proud to be the Commanding Officer of an amazing team that works hard for each other & commits to the common goal to be ‘Smart as a Carrot!!’”

1914 Bombardment ~ Scarborough Remembers
December 16th 1914. A date remembered in Scarborough as the day the 'Great War' came to England. On a cloudy, dull December morning, three German gun ships sailed along the North East Coast and after laying sea mines over a 10 mile stretch off Flamborough Head, they attacked Scarborough @ 08:00.
After the raids on Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool, 137 people had died and 592 were injured.
Today, we will remember those who lost their lives as well as those who were injured. There will be a remembrance event outside of the Town Hall & 08:00, to commemorate when the first shells landed. There will then be a service held at St. Mary's Church and this afternoon a 'Laying of a Wreath' at Dean Road Cemetery, at a newly build 'Cairn' where 17 of the victims are buried.

Armed Forces Day
A wonderful day which culminated in the Lord Lieutenants Cadet and the C/I receiving the 'Armed Forces Day' ensign from the Mayor of Scarborough. It was dedicated to the 'Youth of the Town' who were describe as 'our future', by the Mayor. C.O Natalie Davies & P.O. Cadet Ben Robinson took the salute from the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Peter Scrope.
T.S. Scarborough's stall was manned on the day by members of the 'Friends & Family' committee as well as staff members from the Unit. Selling Flags, running a 'Help for Hero's' bear tombola and answering numerous questions regarding both the Unit and the Cadets, kept everyone busy.
The stall was a great pull also to the 25,000 visitors as we had 3 fantastic model ships on display. These were supplied by Barry Robinson, a local businessman, who makes them in his spare time. These included HMS York, HMS Fearless and HMS Ark Royal. The attention to detail and the dedication shown in their production was awe-inspiring.
Cadets from T.S Scarborough also performed a 'Drumming Display' and made two 'Field Gun' runs, which entertained the crowds and drew loud cheers of delight with how well every member of the teams performed.
A superb day was completed when the money was totted up and TS Scarborough made over £500.00.
Very well done to all involved. BZ.

The website will be continuously updated with plans, pictures and information as the project develops. It will also show what events are being planned, (meetings, 'meet the team' etc), so that the whole of the Local Community can feel part of this exciting project, as well as showing how everyone can get involved. Please take the time to pay us a visit and remember to keep coming back for updates. Hope you enjoy the site, your feedback would be very much appreciated.
****191 Miles covered!! *****SSC Row-Athon Saturday 19th April 2014
Last Saturday (19th April) was the Scarborough Sea Cadets Annual Row-Athon.
Cadets and Staff were outside of the Life Boat Centre on the Foreshore from 09:00 until 19:00 in an attempt to 'Row' the distance from Scarborough to Felixstowe (154 miles). The team managed a fantastic 191 Miles. T.S. Scarborough is the most Northern Sea Cadet Unit in Eastern Division and Felixstowe is the most Southern. It is a huge area we cover and to row the distance in one day was quite an achievement.
All of the money raise will be for the benefit of Scarborough Sea Cadets.
Cadets were getting sponsorship from friends and family and members of the public were able to pop a few coins' into the collection buckets on the day. A total amount will be confirmed later. The cadet who raised the most money will win a free Cadet Course of their choice. So 'Thank You' for supporting the Cadets so generously.

There were plenty of enquiries regarding potential new Cadet opportunities and there were many comments regarding how good the Cadets looked and their positive attitudes. Even some ex-Navy members and ex-Cadets also made a point to acknowledge how impressed they were. So again a very big 'Thank You' to Morrison's and all their Customers. BZ

Well done to all who took part, all who came to support and help out, the day finished up with two Junior cadet crews from our unit showing the district the future looks good as they rowed against each other for fun!!
