We do not receive money from the Royal Navy or the MOD and exist entirely on donations and cadet subscriptions. There is an annual Flag Week when all cadets, parents and staff brave rain or shine in collecting money for the following year. All proceeds collected are used directly by the Unit.
In our annual Flag Week for 2016 we raised over £4,000.
In recent years we have been fortunate to receive donations/grants from a number of organisations including Hillingdon local authority, Middlesex Freemasons, Uxbridge Royal Navy Association, HMS Ganges Association (West London Division)
Money collected through Flag Week together with these donations has allowed a steady programme of refurbishment and renovation of our Unit HQ including new heating, new external lighting, the updating of the male and female toilets, the renewal of the galley and the transformation of an old store-room into a new classroom for marine engineering.
In June, 2016 following exceptionally heavy rain the Unit was flooded which required the replacement of most of the flooring meaning that the cadets had to meet for 4 months in several local church halls. While most of the costs were covered by insurance, removal of the flooring revealed several areas that required additional work. All is now completed and in November, 2016 we are back in our Unit headquarters.
