NEW SHIP APPEAL

Poole Sea Cadets are part of a national fundraising campaign to build a new ship to replace the charity’s iconic flagship, TS Royalist now over 40 years old - and we need your help.
Between 7am on 18 April and 3pm on 21 April Sea Cadet units across the country will 'Row around the World in 80 Hours'. 
The cadets from Poole Unit will be taking part in this challenge on Saturday 20th April and will be raising money through sponsorship.

'A Poole Rahh! Production'

'A Poole Rahh! Production'

Come and join us for a night of Fun and entertainment as the unit presents A Poole Rahh Production. A fundraising event including a talent show by the cadets and a quiz. 

Tickets are £2.50 for adults, £1 for children and £6 for a family ticket (2 adults and up to 3 Children)

The unit is holding  a ‘night at the races’ fundraising event on Saturday 27th October at 7pm. A hot supper will be provided, bring your own drinks.

Tickets £5 Adults and £2.50 Under 18’s are available from the unit

Harry Paye Day

Well done to Poole Unit for your involvement at Harry Paye Day on Poole Quay. All band members dressed as pirates led the parade through the Old Town and Poole Quay and later on gave another performance outside The Lord Nelson. A big thank you to all the staff and parents who turned out to help plus our Juniors who helped run the stall. Over £300 raised. Fantastic!!

Congratularions to A/C Taylor and O/C Sharland who achieved a 2nd and 3rd at the Padlesport competion in Sailisbury. Their combined scores meant that the unit cam away with the Junior Boys Trophy

Poole Unit Band had the pleasure of playing to all invited guests at The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Carol Evans Garden Party at Upton House. The weather was so bad that the event had to be moved inside the house but the band looked splendid stood on the grand staircase.

Wessex Power Handling Winners 2012

Poole Unit's Team won the District Boat Handling (Power) Competion. The team consisting of A/C Walsh, L/C Saunders & A/C Taylor attended the district finals on Sunday 6th May at Shamrock Quays in Southampton. The team are now busy training for area under the instruction of thier team manager PPO Cobley.

Navy Board Cadet for Southern Area

Congratulations to Petty Officer Cadet Reece Oliver who has recently become the Navy Board Cadet for Southern Area during 2012. This is a very prestigious award which is given to the best cadet in each Area and he will be one of only six cadets in the whole of the UK. His duties will be to accompany a Navy Board member/very senior Royal Navy Officer to such events as Royal occasions, opening ceremonies, ships visits, formal parades, presentations and awards, recruiting events and cocktail parties.  During these events, Reece’s role will be to brief the senior officers on issues relating to the Southern Area.

The award is well deserved and all at Poole Unit wish him all the best for the coming year

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday

Poole Sea Cadets took part in the Borough of Poole Remembrance Day Parade. Cadets from Poole and Parkstone Units formed The Guard at The Cenotaph under the direction of POC Oliver and Poole Unit Band led both the main parade and the Mayor and dignitaries parade. AC Gallivan and AC Adams played the Last Post.

The Unit Band then went on to lead the Ferndown Parade in the afternoon.

Donations to Poole Sea Cadets

Poole Unit has just benefited from a £9000 donation from the Chris Bulteel the past Mayor of The Borough of Poole. The cheque was presented at the units recent AGM and prize giving evening to Chairman Mrs Jackie Maynard and Commanding Officer Lt (SCC)Colin Webb RNR. Other donations given during the evening were twenty tracksuits courtesy of Poole Quay Boat Haven and a monetary donation from The High Sherriff of Dorset, Alan Frost which paid for bugle mouth pieces, glock beaters and the refurbishment of two of the bands glocks

National Band Competition - Runners Up

It has been 30 years since Poole Sea Cadet band last appeared at the national finals so this was a great honour for cadets, staff and supporters. The band gave a very impressive performance and came away as runner-ups by just 0.3 of a mark. Well done to all involved especially the band staff, PO (SCC) R Whitwell and PO (SCC) K Steele.

High Sheriff of Dorset's Summer Reception

The High Sheriff of Dorset, Mr Alan Frost held his Summer Reception at Bournemouth University where the unit band played to local dignitaries. Cadets collected donations which were shared with the High Sheriffs charity, the Police safe bus project based in Bournemouth.?

On 15th and 16th June cadets from Poole Unit took part in the 2nd Sea Lord’s Garden Party at Admiralty House, HMS Nelson. Cadets entertained Vice Admiral Montgomery’s guests with band and guard displays.

 

 
Southern Area Regatta

Southern Area Regatta

Congratulations to all the cadets who took part in the Area Regatta on 2nd/3rd July. The junior boys pulling team took first place and now go on to national finals during September at Excel, London. Cadets from the sailing team also go on to Area training for selection to the national finals in Southport during October.?

Poole Unit Sea Cadet Band travelled to Chatham Docks to take part in the Southern Area band contest. Having won now go through to Nationals in August at HMS Raleigh. Best Drum Major was also won by Poole Cadet, A/C Jasmine Hughes.

Poole Sea cadets took part in the annual Harry Paye Day festivities on Poole Quay. The unit band led the parade dressed in a style fitting for the day and a fundraising stall ran lucky dips and games.

As one of the four chosen charities Poole Sea Cadets took an active part in the fundraising day held in Poole Park. Despite a cool breezy day both the band and PT display team put on two performances each. The unit also had a fundraising stall with a raffle, lucky dip and games.

Congratulations to Poole Unit’s Armed Guard who became national winners at HMS Raleigh. A thoroughly deserved win after all the hours of practice and uniform preparation.

Well done also to the cadets from Poole Unit who were part of the unarmed drill squad with Southampton Unit. A very credible 3rd place.

Poole Unit Opening 29th April

T.S Drax, Poole Sea Cadet Unit held its opening on Friday 29th April. The event marked the completion of a project that commenced some 10 years ago when the foundations were laid to what is now the new boat shed. The project has given two new classrooms, enlarged main deck, new boat shed and a new roof. The ceremony was carried out by The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Chris Bulteel. Other guests present included The Mayoress Mrs Angela Bulteel, The Sheriff Cllr Graham Wilson and Mrs Wilson, High Sheriff of Dorset, Mr Alan Frost, Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr Peter Harvey, the Units President Cpt Malcolm Shakeby plus trustees, sponsors, supporters, staff and cadets.

Guests were welcomed by the units Chairman Mrs Jackie Maynard and Commanding Officer CPO (SCC) Stephen West. Catering was undertaken by cook stewards. The Unit band and PT display team put in performances throughout the evening and a slide show of Poole Unit in action was shown.

A memorable and enjoyable evening !
