Unlike the other Cadet Forces, each local Sea Cadet Unit is an individually registered charity responsible for raising the money each year to cover the entire running costs of their own facilities (i.e heating, lighting, electricity, insurance, maintenance costs etc). For the average Unit, this comes to between £10,000 and £12,000 per annum, i.e. almost £1,000 every single month.
Fundraising activities include bag packing, fetes, quiz nights, barn dance and unit meals.
