Current Vacancies

These posts are open to all, no previous experience necessary, just commitment (see below) and a desire to help the community.

Please note that wearing uniform is not a requirement for some roles. If you would like more information about a role then please contact the unit at newhamscc@hotmail.com or if you prefer to have a chat please call 0208 475 8886 (Monday and Thursday 1900-2145 only)

Please note the following:

Adult applicants will be asked to submit a CV with their application. This applies to all roles and is part of our Child Protection Policy.

Applicants will be interviewed by the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and Management Team Chair. This is usually fairly informal and is your opportunity to ask us questions.

Every adult applicant is required to undergo an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check. The cost of DBS checking is met by the charity and you will not be required to pay.

If you are successful you will be required to attend a weekend Adult Induction Course within nine months of joining.

If your role requires you to undertake training then we will help facilitate this. Related experience is not a prerequisite of joining us.

The positions we would like to fill range from very minor roles requiring little commitment to fully committed uniformed staff. All roles are voluntary - there is no remuneration available.

Some of the roles available at the moment include:

Public Relations and Media Officer

Stores Assistant

Community Liaison Officer

Trustee members

Management Team Members

Fundraising and Development Officer

Parents and Supporter Association Chairman

Parents and Supporter Association Vice Chairman

Parents and Supporter Association Secretary

Parents and Supporter Association Members

Cadets Christmas Party

We take our training and activities very seriously, but we don't mind letting off a bit of steam from time to time.

Closeup view of the Unit's original bell

Our Unit has a rich and proud history dating back to before the borough we now represent existed.

We are hugely honoured to bear the name of one of Great Britian's best-known heroes, who is remembered all around the Unit, not least of all, on the bell.

For the sharp-eyed among you, we are aware that the spelling of  Jack's surname on the bell is not quite right. It's a common error but this bell's got lots of history and is part of the fabric of the Unit. We're not going to change it!
