This building was rented to Mansfield Sea Cadets to use by Mansfield District Council in 1948.  Before this they were formed at King Edward School in around 1942 transfering to St Marks Church Hall and the Old Meeting House before the present building.

U.M.C (Unit Management Committee)

The back bone of the unit is the Unit Management Committee.  This comprises of parents and friends and is responsible for the provision and effective maintenance of the Unit, the financial management of the Unit accounts and the efficient running of the Unit. This entails raising funds to support the Unit in terms of equipment and travel etc. The Management Committee usually meets once a month in the Unit HQ.

Sea Cadet Units are supported by the Royal Navy, who only gives limited assistance, mainly in the supply of uniforms to the Senior Cadets and loan of certain specialist equipment to the Unit.  All other financial requirements are the responsibility of each individual Unit and in turn, this depends on the success of the Management Committee.

The support and assistance of Parents and Friends is an essential part of keeping the Unit at Mansfield on a sound footing.  If you are interested in helping please contact the chairman Mr Gary Weaver by email at or come down to the Unit on Quarry Lane on Tuesday or Thursday 1900- 2100.

We look forward to seeing you there!
