Luton RMCD Attend St George’s Day Parade!

Luton RMCD Attend St George’s Day Parade!

26/04/2014
Two Royal Marines Cadets from Luton have stepped in to full roles in the 5 Troop National Drill Team. The training weekends have been held at Welwyn Garden City, under the tutorage of newly minted Drill Leader Sgt King. This final training weekend included a special treat. Having spent the day on the parade, the cadets were then transported into London, took part in the St George’s Day Parade through the capital and then rounded the day off by a trip to Downing Street and a visit to the Metropolitan Police’s elite firearms unit, SO19. Well done to all cadets, and good luck next week.

X-Ray Company Easter Camp 2014!

21/04/2014
The X-Ray Company Easter Camp was held at Beckingham this weekend, having been relocated last minute. Three Royal Marines Cadets and two staff made the journey to Lincolnshire to take part in field training in preparation for the FTX on Summer Camp. Cadets also completed HeartStart and got the opportunity to face the Beckingham Obstacle Course. MC2 Williams completed the basic cadre having recently transferred from being a Sea Cadet. The newly promoted Sgt Salmon and Sgt Matthews found that life at the top is full of new challenges as they found themselves on the training team for the Basic Cadres. PSgt Spraggon-Quinn completed his first camp as staff on the Intermediate Cadre, whilst ASgt Jackson completed phases 1 and 2 of his fieldcraft module.

Qualifications Galore at Luton Unit Easter Camp!

Qualifications Galore at Luton Unit Easter Camp!

21/04/2014
This year, Luton Sea Cadets went back to basics for our Easter Camp, running it in isolation rather than as a joint camp with another unit. Another unique attribute was the for the first time, nearly 50% of the applicants were Junior Sea Cadets. The focus of the camp was 100% boat-work, with each cadets taking part in two disciplines across the four days. The options included paddlesport (canoe/kayak), sailing, powerboating and rowing. Over the course of the weekend cadets gained a combined total of 768 boating hours, and 45 qualifications include 3 BCU 2*, 5 BCU 1*, 1 Paddlepower Start, 2 x Rowing Coxswains, 4 x Supervised Coxswains, 6 x Comp Crew, 12 x YSS1 Sailing, 12 x RYA Level 1 Power. Well done to all cadets, and thank you to all the staff who helped along the way. A special mention to Mrs Tompkins and Mr Graham for Chinese Night in the galley and to Nikki from Luton Sea Scouts for helping to teach the kayakers.
