This included helping to secure a £50,000 award from The People's Millions which majorly contributed to the completion of the project.

Incoming Officer In Charge, S/Lt (SCC) Neil Allison RNR said "Clive's contribution to Kendal Sea Cadets has been truly significant. He will be a hard act to follow! I'm looking forward to taking on this new challenge".

SEA CADETS CELEBRATE 156 YEARS!

SEA CADETS CELEBRATE 156 YEARS!

Sea Cadets from Kendal are celebrating the Sea Cadet’s 156th birthday on June 25 (and their own 70th anniversary this year)!

The Saturdays, James Cracknell, Gary Neville, Helen Skelton, Barney Harwood and Jessie Ware are just some who have voiced their support for Sea Cadets with birthday messages. See http://www.sea-cadets.org/happy-birthday-2012.aspx for more information.

We’ve been inspiring and challenging young people through nautical adventure for 156 years and we are thrilled that so many stars have wished us Happy Birthday. Said Helen Skelton “I love a challenge from time to time but you guys face them daily with pride, passion and perseverance.  What a great organisation.  Big birthday wishes to you all!”

Helen Skelton wishes the Sea Cadets "Happy Birthday"

We are the UK’s largest maritime youth charity established in 1856 and we work across the country in 400 towns with 14000 Sea Cadets aged between 10 and 18.  Cadets learn vital life skills like leadership and team working via nautical adventure activities, and can earn extra qualifications which help boost confidence and give young people a head start in life. After earlier successes in winning both the Sea Cadet Cumbria District and Northwest Area Shooting Competitions, it was an optimistic team that entered the National Sea Cadet Shooting Competition at the end of April.

KENDAL JUBILEE WALK

KENDAL JUBILEE WALK

On Saturday the 21 April, the Rotary Club of Kendal held a sponsored walk in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, to give local organisations the chance to raise funds.

Over half of Kendal Sea Cadets joined the fundraising walk along with several staff members. Armed with waterproofs and wellies the cadets walked from Kirkbie Kendal School to Sedgwick and back. The first team back, led by CPO Edgar, arrived in a very good time having run most of the way (!), with the second team, led by PO Brooks and PO Livesey following a little while after. All the cadets received a certificate and medal for their endeavours and the Unit was grateful for all the sponsorship money raised.

HMS LIVERPOOL VISIT

HMS LIVERPOOL VISIT

Cadets and staff members enjoyed an entertaining and informative visit to HMS Liverpool on Sunday 4th March. This was her last visit to her home city prior to decommissioning at the end of this month.

We were given a tour of the ship, including the Bridge, Ops room, Engineering Control and the weapons systems on the main deck. We also had a short talk and demonstration from the Royal Marines including what kit they carry in their Bergens (backpacks) and the range of weapons they use.

The visit was particularly memorable for PO (SCC) Dave Horsman who was a member of the ship's company many years ago!

KENDAL SEA CADETS SHOOTING TEAM

KENDAL SEA CADETS SHOOTING TEAM

Kendal Sea Cadets shooting team has gained major success by winning both the Sea Cadet Cumbria District and Northwest area shooting competition.

Their success in the competition was also bolstered by Leading Cadet Victoria Edgar taking the best shot prize in both competitions. Team manager Petty Officer Andy Edgar said that this team is capable of winning more competitions due to the consistency of their shooting with all members shooting in the high 80s and 90s on regular occasions. This statement has been borne out by the teams current placing of first in the Sea Cadet National competition that has around 6 weeks to run before a final competition to be held at the National shooting centre at Bisley in March.
