Role: Volunteer Paddlesport Instructor  
Organisation and Location: Sea Cadets – Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadet Unit 
Availability: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible, Volunteer 

Do you have a passion for water sports in particular kayaking and/or canoeing? 

Would you like the opportunity to apply this passion in a meaningful role to launch young people for life, whilst also enhancing your skills, boosting your self-esteem and meeting new people?  

The Sea Cadets is the UK’s leading maritime charity and provides a head start in life for young people through nautical adventure and fun. Our volunteers work, both directly with young people and behind the scenes, to help make a positive difference to teenagers who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities. 

Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets, based off Lockhill Road, is currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to join their team as Sea Cadet Paddlesport Instructor. Grimsby and Cleethorpes is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have 75 cadets who come from all over the local area. 

What is a Sea Cadet Paddlesport Instructor?
 
You will be hands-on teaching cadets at the Grimsby Cleethorpes Yacht Club Paddlesport skills based around the British Canoeing Awards Scheme. You will run lessons, activities, games, projects and events that help cadets gain confidence and qualifications as they go. 

A role at Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets unit is ideal if you can support local young people on a regular or semi-regular basis, are happy to throw yourself into teaching activities and seek a rewarding role where you will be the key to helping young people flourish into confident, capable young adults.

About the Volunteer Instructor role:

The tasks of an Instructor include but are not restricted to the following:

•    Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of Children and Young People for whom they are responsible.
•    Delivering instruction and training to adults and cadets of the Sea Cadets in the subjects of Paddlesport.
•    Assisting with the administrative functions of the British Canoeing Award Scheme.
•    Undertaking role or activity training within the Unit and elsewhere to allow performance of any of the above tasks.
•    Attending Parade Nights (Tuesday & Thursday) or being able to commit to a particular night each week or month.

There are no specific educational or experience requirements for this role; having the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are the most important things! If you think the person specification below sounds like you, then please get in touch:

On becoming a volunteer, you will be asked to complete some mandatory training which includes Safeguarding and Child Protection. We would also require you to complete a DBS Disclosure.
